Great pump that does exactly as described.

Purchased this pump to drain an old kitchen sink I put in my basement for washing my hands and small things when I work down there. There is no floor drain to the sewer so the sink drains to a 5 gallon plastic bucked and pump keeps the bucket from overfilling onto the floor. I used a short washing machine hose on supplied adapter, then ran a PVC pipe with check valve up the wall and into the main house drain at ceiling level. I love finally having a sink in my basement. The integral switch and compact size makes it perfect for my need. I chose the Little Giant as it appears to be better constructed than some of the bargain utility pumps out there. I hope the little bit higher price and quality pays off in the long run.

A useful pump, with reservations

We use 2 of these as sump pumps in our basement and crawl space. They certainly have sufficient pressure and volume. They have important advantages over e.g. pedestal pumps: they pump out the sump to a lower level, they will fit in a very small sump, and they don't protrude above it. However, in our experience, they don't last forever. Over a period of 15 years, we've had about 8 of them. Some have lasted several years, others just a few; one failed after ~6 months and was replaced under warranty. Also, the levels at which the pump turns on and off are neither adjustable nor consistent. The pump is controlled by a microswitch activated by water pressure on a diaphragm, and thus is very dependent on the spring in the switch, which seems to be quite variable. Typically, it turns on when the water level is near the top of the pump and off when it reaches an inch or two from the bottom, but we've had switches that required 3-4" of water above the top of the pump, another that did not turn on even at 6" over the top (and had to be replaced), and one that was turning on and off every 10-15 seconds, dramatically decreasing the life of the pump. We still use these pumps because we like the other features, but I wish the quality and characteristics were more consistent.

Very good sump pump - especially with built in level control

My first pump for beneath house sump pump service lasted over 16 years without a hic-up. I found the collection basin was plugged with silt so figured I would just replace the pump since it had been so many years. The old pump still worked fine! New replacement pump has been in service for another 3 years and running fine.

first one lasted 20 years

Fingers crossed that this one lasts the same. It is in a basement kitchen where the kitchen sink is below the sewer line so it comes on constantly. But the first one lasted 20 years, and I was happy I could get the identical one to replace the old one. The pressure switch finally failed on the old when the rubber gasket started leaking.

I would NOT buy this product again.

I returned this product because the one I bought last year didn't work for more than one year despite extensive trouble shooting. I then discovered that Supply House sold the Little Giant with a float switch and it is working just great. I highly recommend the pumps with a float switch over the diaphragm switch

Love this product

This pump replaced a 25 year old one just like it. My new puppy ruined the cord and plug so we had to purchase a new one. We use it to remove water off the pool cover and it does a great job. It's a work horse.

I would repurchase this product from Supply House

Fortunately (for me), I probably will not need to repurchase this sump pump for another 25 + years, providing the quality from Little Giant has remained the same from nearly 3 decades ago. I think that I could have lasted even longer, if the neighbor hadn't inadvertently buried it with dirt which resulted in motor burnout. I hope this pump lasts even longer!!

Q: I want to use this `pump to pump standing water in the back yard to the storm sewer. I have used it before and it seems to work. this use requires me to monitor the level so it doesn't run dry. does the diaphragm switch turn it off when level is low? Right now I have the manual little giant.

Yes, the Piggyback Diaphragm Switch can turn the pump on when water level reaches 6" to 9" and turn it off when the water level is at 1" to 4"

Q: Hi, I'm looking for an auto pump for yard drainage issues (on a concrete surface). Is there a certain amount of pressure or depth of water that turns this on? Thanks, Joel

The automatic switch kicks on between 6" and 9", and off between 1" and 4".

Yes – this is a submersible pump and it requires that the water cover the entire pump before it switches on. Then it runs until the water level nears the base of the pump. This would not do the job for you, since a vast amount of water (several inches worth) would have to accumulate before it switched on. It sounds like you need a manual pump, but that would need to be monitored (most if not all cannot be allowed to run dry).
