Description

Magnetically driven pump for mildly corrosive chemicals and solutions. Thermally protected open fan-cooled permanent split capacitor motor with ball bearings. 6 ft. power cord and 3-prong molded plug. (230V version has no plug).
The Little Giant MD series features leakproof, seal-less magnetic drives and are designed for in-line, non submersible use. Volute and magnet housing are glass-filled polypropylene for excellent chemical resistance. Impeller is glass-filled polypropylene and ceramagnet “A” (barium ferrite). Shaft and thrust washers are titanium for excellent wear and trouble-free service. Pumping heads are easily rotated, cleaned or serviced with no special tools required. Spindle shaft is supported at both ends to prevent impeller damage during start-up and stop of pump.

I love the pump
I needed this pump to move water in an outdoor science exhibit. It is housed in a water tight cabinet. It does what I need it to do nicely by recirculating water through two filters to keep the water clarity up. I really don't need to move corrosive materials so that was not a selling point for me. The only down side to this pump is that you need to oil it once or twice a year.

"Performed as specified"
The 5-MD pump delivered the performance as specified in the volume/head curve provided in the downloads. I was looking for a pump that could deliver 5 gpm @ 25 feet of head. The 5-MD-SC and 5-MD-HC are great for higher volume, lower head applications, but could only deliver 3 gpm @ 25' of head. The standard 5-MD delivered 5 gpm of propylene glycol and water @ 1.03 specific gravity. With the magnetic drive pump head, there are no worries about shaft seal leaks either. The pump head is easily taken apart with four wing nuts for any cleaning required. Perfect for my application.
