The oxygen barrier is designed to prevent oxygen from the air from entering the tubing. Even with a glycol solution, we still recommend that you use tubing with an oxygen barrier.
ThermaPEX is a PEX-A and Rifeng Oxygen Barrier PEX is a PEX-B. You can use both in an underfloor heating system.
The maximum water temperature for this tubing is 140 degrees if it is installed under a wood floor and 150 if it is concrete.
The outside diameter of 1/2" PEX is 5/8" and the outside diameter of 3/4" PEX is 7/8".
The recommended water pressure is 22 psi.
Oxygen barrier PEX is manufactured with a special external coating that prevents available oxygen from permeating the tubing. Available oxygen in the water is what causes rust to form on ferrous radiant system components. We recommend oxygen barrier PEX tubing for all radiant systems. If you use standard PEX (non-oxygen barrier) tubing for your radiant system, instead of the recommended oxygen barrier PEX tubing, you will need to install corrosion resistant system components (stainless steel, brass or bronze pump, boiler and fittings).
PEX tubing cannot be used in steam applications. The temperatures are too high and could exceed the 200 degree limit. PEX tubing is only rated for use with water.
The maximum run for 5/8" tubing is 400 ft. and for 3/4" tubing it is 500 ft. The maximum runs of PEX tubing from sizes 5/16" to 1" are listed on the comparison guide which is located on the PEX tubing page here: http://www.pexsupply.com/PEX-Tubing-223000
The OD of 1/2" PEX tubing is 0.625 inches.
The bending radius for PEX tubing is 6 times the outside diameter. 1/2" tubing has an outside diameter of .625" therefore 3.75" is the bending radius.
