With Rinnai's Control-R Wi-Fi Module, new and existing Rinnai Residential and Commercial Tankless Water Heaters (2006 and newer) can be remotely monitored and controlled via smart devices. Rinnai now has the capability to provide a new option for management, control and maintenance of Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters.
Features:
- Works with all Rinnai Tankless Water Heater models manufactured 2006 and newer (except RH180 Hybrid Tank-Tankless Water Heaters).
The Lime Condition (LC) notification will not appear in the Rinnai App when the Control-R Wi-Fi Module is paired with the following series of Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters manufactured prior to 2009: VA, VB, KA and V53e. - Attaches to side of water heater via magnetic enclosure (indoor models only) or mounts to an indoor wall with supplied mounting hardware.
- Pairs with only one Rinnai Tankless Water Heater.
- Included with purchase: Control-R Wi-Fi Module with 5 feet (1.5 m) of wire for water heater connection; wall mounting hardware (2 anchors and 2 screws); and "Rinnai Control-R Wi-Fi Module Installation Manual."
- Title 24 Compliant - meets California Energy Commission's Title 24 requirements.
Supported Devices:
- Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.) running operating system 8.0 or higher.
- Android devices (phones, tablets, etc.) running operating system 4.4 or higher.
- BlackBerry devices are not supported.

Easy install
This wifi module is a great alternative to a wired module. It simply plugs into the tankless and is magnetized to hang on the side. You download the app and can easily control your unit and get info about status. Highly recommend.

I got the device, installed it, and tried to connect the Rinnai Central app (not the Control R app, that's obsolete despite being mentioned in the doc and all over the web). Unfortunately, after many tries I still could not connect. Called Rinnai and after talking to a couple different agents was told "yah, that's a known issue when using Android. An app update is coming real soon now". That was about 2 weeks ago and still no update.
So far then the experience has been very much less than optimal. We'll see once I'm able to actually connect.

Great unit!!
Works as directed… takes a few mins to set up, but once set and you download the app.. you can control your system from anywhere..

Solved a problem with the Control-r
Had the wired controller for our Instant Hot hot water heater. Every time the power goes out I had to reset the controller.
With the Control-r working with WI-FI solved that problem
