bumble bee taco

We installed 2 of those, and so far it is best pump for residential hydronic systems by far.

needs to be able to be programed better

I use this circulator in the set point mode and that is what I bought it for . I heat with wood and do heat storage and the plan was to control the return water temp to the storage tank to get the most stratification I could and heat benifits of a storage system . The problem lies in the fact that when the pump first kicks in it runs wide open for the first 3 minutes before it starts using the set point operation by then it already has started to mix in my storage tank . I think this start up time should be user adjustable and its not . Other than that its a great circulator but it does sound like a buzzing bumble bee when it runs , No Kidding

Great Pump!

I have been using this pump for my home heating for almost 10 years. If it wasn't obsolete I would but it again. When I added a loop for my garage I would have bought another but it wasn't available. The HEC-2 still running flawlessly and has never had an issue. I am running it in Delta T mode. Its speed varies through out the heating season depending on load from minimum to close to maximum. There's not much noise in my boiler room, you could probably hear a pin drop, but I barely hear the HEC-2 when it speed reaches close to max. And even then its far from loud... I don't think it would bother me if it was in my bed room. The pump is in a remote building pushing water through buried lines to radiators in my house.

Pile of garbage

Installed several if these in customers homes for the delta t benefit. they do not last, and the sensor leads are prone to loosening causing a no heat situation. The rotors lock up after about 6 years.

Poorly thought out

Beware this pump has a constant minimum speed, for a injection application this can be has as high as 6gpm, this means you will have 6gpm of injection at the lowest speed and can go no lower, if your application assumes the pump will ramp down as it approaches set point and not exceed your set point do NOT buy this product. It is quite difficult to imagine this product being sold as an injection pump by a major manufacturer, it seems to have been created by someone with very little/zero knowledge of primary secondary injection style control.

LOUD PUMP!

Pump works fantastic, but you will definitely hear it run. Very noisy on high speed and still has a noticeable hum/buzz at lower speeds. The noise level is MUCH higher than the other circulators I've used. Not a good choice when used anywhere near living space.

Wish I had gone with the Viridian

I bought this to do boiler protection on a new P/S loop using setpoint control. This pump appears to only work with emitter circuits, not heat gain circuit. For boiler return, being below setpoint should slow the pump down. For radiator return, being below setpoint should speed the pump. Viridian pumps have a boiler protection option that covers this. The pump on my CI radiator circuit works fine set in delta T mode. Comfort level is way up with a wide delta T and the pump adjusts to the temps. Programming interface is HORRIBLE. The membrane switch has a poor feel and it is hard to follow the Taco procedure when you can't tell if the buttons are closing their contacts. Once it's done, I hope I don't have to do often. It is slightly noisy, but not a deal breaker. Not shipped with bolts - give me a break!

The Pump To Use

This Is A Great Pump To Use To Maintain 20° Delta T Across Supply And Return Lines In Heating Systems And Indirect Water Heaters. We've Replaced Existing Pumps On Indirects With This Pump And Decreased Cycle Time On The Boiler From On Average 2.5 Times Per Call To One Cycle By Reducing The Flow Through The Tank Giving The Heat Exchanger Time To Give Off Its Heat. This Pump Will Save Your Customers Money And They Can See The Savings As They Watch The Wattage Go Down.

Excellent Circulator Pump

Totally satisfied with this pump. Probably the most advanced pump I've ever installed. Capable of various pumping "modes".

would use this prduct again

I used this for a radiant heat loop on my house. I will order to more for the other loops. I have read the other comments about noise and I can see where you might not like it your living space is near them. But I am very happy with it.

Buzzing right along

The first BB I was sent had a bad temp sensor right out of the box. I ran the unit on constant power but found it failed the first night I had it. I contacted Taco tech support and found I had installed everything correctly. Supply house sent me a new unit and it has been great for the last month.

No, the HEC-2 is not for use in potable systems, as it is made of cast iron. It should only be used in closed loop heating applications.
