Description

Taco Zone Sentry Zone Valves provide on-off, normally open or normally closed control in both open and closed hot or chilled water systems. The valves can be used in a wide variety of heating and cooling applications, primarily designed for use with fan coils, radiators, convectors, air handlers, heat pumps and radiant applications.

The Zone Sentry is the most technologically advanced zone valve ever made. It's also simple to install and operate. The valve can be installed in any direction, in any orientation. Taco then went a step further, allowing the operator to be mounted to the valve body in either direction (see Figure A of the manual in the "Manuals" tab), great for those tight baseboard jobs. Snap-in quick connects on the back of the valve make for a simple, secure and fast wiring hook-up. A green LED light shows full functionality of the valve's operation and thermostat status. Under a no power situation the manual override button located on the top of the valve allows the ball to be rotated up to 90° and is also marked with a slot to indicate the position of the valve.

Flow size is less than 1/2 inch.

Pipe size is NOT the size of the internal ball valve which is just under a half inch diameter. If you are looking for a one inch flow, this is NOT for you. You could get a smaller valve at less cost and use an adapter to the pipe size and get the same result.

It really IS new and improved!

I have used the older versions of these before and they were pretty good. Reliable and functional and about what you expect them to be. These new ones are all that and a bit more. For one, they look better (not the picture shown above, but the Sentry style) with the actuator having a rounded, low profile motor. I think they are actually a little bit bigger than before, but they LOOK smaller. The actuator comes on and off easier than before with a clever latching spring. Best thing of all, the old units were pretty loud with a very noticible motor sound when operating. These new ones are almost inaudible, not as quiet as a thermal, but way quieter than a cell phone on vibrate. My only gripe is that the very first version of these (the first "ESP's" before they had to change the names) were field configurable as either normally open or normally closed. It would be great if these were too.

Q: I have the older 3/4" EBV Zone Valves, that have seemed to fail. Can I use the new EBV Zone Valve motor and control portion on top of the older Taco copper valve? Will it just twist on? Thanks...

The newer-style Zone Sentry heads are also compatible with existing EBV and ESP valves. These heads are available by themselves: part ZA024Q4A1 (normally closed) and part ZB024Q4A1 (normally open).

yes they will. the older Taco EBV zone valves bodies were not copper as you state but cast brass, just want to make sure we're talking about the same item . Twist off the old and twist on the new , that simple, that's what makes them great!

Q: I have a Closed system with 11 zones. I am using a 180,000 btu raypak boiler that heats a open water heater for domestic hot water 80 gal. I also have a Heat exchanger that I intend to use should I go with 11 Taco pumps 1 for each zone or build headers and 1 Pump with 11 Taco Zone valves?

This is primarily a matter of preference. Zone valves use less electricity, but if you zone by pump your entire system would not be dependent on one large circulator.
