Easier to replace than clean.
First, when you measure the diameter of your existing 5/8 glass it will be smaller than 5/8". It is closer to 0.583" not 0.625... so more like
5 & 37/64. I fits in a 5/8" opening. I was confused so I called Wal-rich, they said 5/8 gauge glass is 5/8" OD. They were not correct fortunately. at 1.19 for a foot, you can't go wrong. measure using glass set down all the way in the lower valve to 1/16 from the edge of the top valve. Mark and cut. use new flexible washers and new friction washers. get an inexpensive tube glass cutter of score with triangular file and snap.

I'm not entirely sure, however it is definitely designed to withstand fairly high heat given it's intended purpose.
