1/4 Turn Gauge Glass Cutter

Needed to cut gauge glasses to size for residential steam boilers, and this was the tool for it. I did have to scribe it all around the glass, but it did give me a clean crack after tapping it off. I'm keeping this in my tool bag!

cheep alloy , cutting wheel small. 1/4 turn did not scribe glass enough to snap a clean cut. ended up doing 360 multi times to snap tube.

I would have loved this tool from the start had I known about how much excess length of glass was recommended to make an easy break. The gauge glass I needed to replace was 7 1/8" so i purchased a 6 pack of 8" glass and this tool. When I opened up the tool and looked at the instructions, there was a recommendation of at least 2" beyond the score point so you would only need to do a 1/4 to 1/3 turn of the tool, then you apply force against that score as well as pulling the two parts away. I did not know that so I was attempting to do the less desirable method of scoring all the way around and trying to tap until the glass broke. I was never successful. Once I got some 12" glass, I got a clean break every time.

Bought it blind and it worked perfectly. " Hint " On short pieces use a piece of PVC over glass to snap

Used to cut sight level gage glass to length, works great easy to use.
