3 QuestionsQ: Are the threadson the 2 1/2" x 2" Black Hex Bushing MPT and NPT? The fitting is for Sch.40 Black Iron Pipe?

I haven't used that particular size, but all the others I have used are mpt outer and fpt inner. Hightemptools.com
The hex bushing is NPT male and NPT female. Yes it is for sch40 black iron pipe. R. LePage E. Helena, MT
I would say yes to this question. The picture is of a different size but the idea is the same. I assume you mean by MPT Male Pipe Thread and NPT National Pipe Thread which are one and the same. erl
Q: This may sound odd, but can the inside diameter opening of this 1-1/2 x 1 in reducer bushing be attached to a threaded male pipe on either side of the bushing? I know I can thread a 1 inch pipe through the hex nut side of the bushing, but what about the other side? Or would I need a left hand threaded pipe to come in the other way?

Not if you want it to seal. You wouldn't need left hand threads to come in from the back side but the threads are tapered so the taper would be backwards. You might get it to go but there wouldn't be much surface area for a seal. If it were straight taper or parallel threads it wouldn't matter which side you threaded in to.
The internal thread is a tapered thread, so it will be smaller at the bottom. You would need an undersized thread on the pipe you are installing. Also the thread will not seal tight as the tapers will be in opposite directions.
No. The thread is NPT so it is tapered. About left threaded option... I don't know if there is left threaded NPT.

Yup, it is. I’ve used these bushings before to adapt air vent valves onto steam convectors.
They are the same - 1/8" NPT in both cases.

What are the threads on the air valve? They would have to tapered NPT threads to match the bushing. What is your application? I wouldn't prefer black steel pipe for compressed air. OK for natural gas.
