Modern HVAC units are now requiring a deeper flaring method (especially if R-410 refrigerant is being used.) In order to accommodate these requirements, Yellow Jacket offers the 60278.
It can accommodate a range of 1/8" to 3/4" OD and is specifically designed for R-410A in that it features a built-in height stop that helps you meet larger R-410A flaring requirements.

Hello Guys , I am planing far ahead, the flare tool I bought is for the installation of many minisplit A/Cs. we have not all machines yet. as soon we have all machines we will install one after the other and than we have to cut and flare the gas lines, we wil start like I see this in March. the tool looks proffessional, and that is what we are used to buy the last 40 years.

Disappointing
Finally got around to using this. Makes great flares for all copper pipes 3/8" and greater. Does not work with 1/4". Unfortunately, 1/4" is the most common size pipe in my mini-split install, so the tool is useless. The clamps that hold the pipe in place during the flaring process are very smooth, and do not grip the 1/4" copper. The result is that the cone that makes the flare just pushes the pipe through the clamps and no flare is formed. Tried cleaning it, roughing up the copper a bit with sandpaper, but no luck. Did some internet searching and sure enough, it is a common issue with this tool. One post I found suggested placing some sandpaper between the pipe and the jaws of the clamp. Didn't work.

After leaving the first one on a job site somewhere on accident, I needed another one for a mini split install. I bought the same one. I've never had it make a bad flare. The first one I had made at least 1000 flares. Perfect every time. I use a bit of Nylog on the flare head to keep it smooth.
