It should be kept in mind that as long as it’s plugged in, the pump goes on automatically every few minutes. If there’s not sufficient water to pump then it shuts off. In other words, there’s no float valve and it shouldn’t be left plugged in without deep enough water to pump. In my experience in real-life situations on slightly uneven surfaces it doesn’t actually pump down to the claimed level, but will pump down to maybe about half an inch of water. So as long as there’s more than half an inch of water you can plug it in and it will pump. It may take three or four minutes before it starts. It’s sturdy and pumps a good volume, and I’ve been happy with this pump, keeping in mind these limitations.
1½ inches to start. Shuts off at 1/8 inch,
As I recall I used my unit on a floor that is not level, and it seem to turn on if there is at least at inch of water. Also it was not consistent, perhaps because of the uneven floor. I left the unit on for a week thinking it can turn on and off automatically. That is before I found out that it cannot run dry for a length of time before something gets overstress. My unit is not working now because of that.
Funny you should ask - since I purchased this unit, there has not been an opportunity/need to use it - so I have no direct experience with your water depth question... Keep in mind that this unit is not intended for continuous connection, it's not a sump pump. It's intended to remove standing water.
This pump will turn on every three minutes and will run for five seconds. If it senses water during those five seconds, it will pump the water down to an 1/8". If it doesn't sense water in those five seconds it will shut off.
The pump starts successfully in as little as about 1/4" inch of water -- it should work well for your needs.
I can't remember where I read that this pump checks for presence of water every 3-4 minutes, but I can verify that it does work that way, as I tested it. Once it starts pumping it will stay on until almost all (1/8") water is gone. And then it will start another cycle of monitoring every 3-4 minutes, which is silent BTW. So unless your basement is like 3 by 3 feet, the pump should pick up before water reaches 3/4".
The pump turns on automatically every 3 minutes and will sense water at 1/8" or above. It will shut off if no water is detected in 5 seconds. Therefore this pump will work great for you.
