Not just for outdoors

By Stef

Comments about VisionPRO Outdoor Temperature Sensor:

I bought this along with an 8000 series Honeywell thermostat. I don't use it for outside but to monitor the temperature remotely in the cold room downstairs. In the really cold weather I want to know if the cold room drops below freezing and I need to close down the damper.

A must have for your vision pro tstat

By Lindquist Electric

Comments about VisionPRO Outdoor Temperature Sensor:

Simple install. I used a shielded wire because of some florescent lights in the basement and I ran the wire away from the lights. Have seen interference become a problem before with the resistor value and temperature display on the stat. I bought this separately but with the VisionPro IAQ Thermostat & Module. The two do come as a package but for some reason navigating to that part of site wasn't obvious and I didn't see it until later. Either way I think it was cheaper to buy separately. Maybe the firmware on the stat is a little older but it saved me a couple of bucks and I don't think I sacrificed any quality. Great site.

VisionPRO Sensor Reads High

By Retired Chemist

from Kensington, NH

Verified Buyer

Comments about VisionPRO Outdoor Temperature Sensor:

This outdoor sensor is used with a Honeywell HZ432 Zone Control board to control the changeover temperature from heat pump to oil furnace. It may also be wired directly to certain Honeywell thermostats so that they display the outdoor temperature.

At a changeover temperature of 25 F the heat pump costs about 2/3 the cost of the oil furnace for equivalent heat delivered. For lowest heating cost, the changeover should be at the lowest temperature that will keep the house warm.

Unfortunately, this sensor reads 5-7 F warmer than actual, so unless the home owner is aware of the difference, heating costs will be higher than they should be.

Worked out of the box

By THGdriver

Comments about VisionPRO Outdoor Temperature Sensor:

I installed sensor in a place out of sun light, heat, cold, rain, vents, ducts, etc. Drilled 1/4 inch hole to outside of home for wires. After inserting wires I filled hole with putty/calk. I then Ran wires to thermostat and installed as directed in the easy to read instructions. After ten minutes the Thermostat was displaying the correct outside temperature that I checked against a known, good outside thermometer. Works great.

Comments about VisionPRO Outdoor Temperature Sensor:

I use this sensor with a Vision Pro thermostat in a heat pump system. It really smooths out the operation of this system and gives me control over system operation. If you have a HVAC system that can use this option I recommend that you use it. The cost of the sensor is not significant.

There no outdoor sensor needed, enter your zip code information after registering at "My total connect comfort" website(info comes with stat). This information currently comes from Accuweather

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Honeywell 9000 series thermostat is not designed for any hard-wired
temperature sensors. To enable outdoor temperature showing on the
thermostat's screen you have to register the thermostat (with Honeywell)
and connect it to internet. Only after that outdoor temperature will be
downloaded to the thermostat from internet based on your ZIP code from
Accuweather. There is no other way around. Sorry, there is no way to
connect this sensor to the thermostat.
Here is a quote from Honeywell documentation:
Where does the outdoor temperature and humidity reading come from?
Once the homeowner has registered on My Total Connect Comfort, the outdoor information is based on the
zip code information they provided when registering. This information currently comes from Accuweather.

    Q:

I have about a 50 foot run from the vision pro thermostat to an outside wall. I saw in some of the comments that interference from other wiring may be a problem. I have two extra wires in my thermostat cable. Can I use these or would the low voltage from the other wires inside the cable be a problem. Thanks in advance.

      A:

It should work but the temperature value is based on the resistance of the wire. I recommend using the same or maybe a wire larger than what comes on the temperature sensor. Also, when extending the wire the connection should be soldered not just twisted.

      A:

I'll try to help. But I have not enough info. How I can benefit from your
first sentence? 50 feet run, to outside wall... And second problem you do
not give any info how you want to use extra wires(what is the purpose)? So,
while I'm waiting on your response I have couple general words for you:
since the voltage going through the thermostat cable is 24 V AC(alternating
current), it is not good idea to connect remote sensors(specially in
commercial applications) to any extra wires withing same cable; better to
run cables at least few inches apart, and the best - use shielded cable for
sensors' connections. I hope, I could help you, otherwise give more
      information

I dont know but call honeywell technical help and check. Resistance in wires and that type of technical stuff I am not fluent in. They have a website with technical data on their products as well you just dowload them pdf no problem now that I remember. If there is some reading material on the sensor there may be an answer in there if you can unscramble all the tech jargain, ie. resistance talk and so forth. Cheers and hope this helps.

I'm an electronics tech . . . The temp sensor is a DC current and will
not cause interference; I doubt it will receive interference either. Mine
is about 50 feet from the Stat and it works fine.

It works with my Visionpro YTH9421C1002, but I have the EIM, equipment interface module, that's where the wires connect, not to the actual thermostat.  It works great to control the humidity in the winter to keep frost off the windows at night, you need the sensor for this feature.

It sounds like you may have a defective unit. You should not place the sensor or wire for the sensor near any high voltage units or wiring, as this could affect the sensor reading.
