Description for Takagi T-K4-OS-NG

Note: Isolation valves are not included but are recommended for installaltion.

Released in 2010, the T-K4 improves upon many of the features from the T-K3. The T-K4 is one of Takagi's smaller tankless water heaters. At 13.8 inches wide and weighing only 38 pounds, its ultra-compact design allows it to be mounted on a wall.

Takagi's newest tankless water heater also features an energy factor of 0.82, so it is extremely efficient and environmentally friendly. Since tankless water heaters only burn gas when hot water is needed, installing this unit can help homeowners save up to 45% on their monthly gas bills.

The T-K4-OS has a built-in power venting system and was designed specifically for outdoor installations. The T-K4-OS does not require any additional Category III venting or vent caps, making installation one step easier for installers.

Beware of gas inlet bleeder screw

By DP

from Clearwater, FL

Verified Buyer

Comments about TK-4-OS Takagi Tankless Outdoor Water Heater (Propane):

Overall good. Replaced 12 year old TK2 (mother board went bad). Poor design on gas inlet - bleeder screw leaked. Went to remove and reseal and housing immediately broke off. No tool marks from installation - poor design and poor quality metal material with insert for screw. Recommend manufacture change to galvanized or black iron.
Not sure why there is a bleeder screw - not on my old TK-2 unit.

We purchased this heater to supply our domestic hot water and radiant heating needs. Our house is small so the heating needs are not that great but this unit has performed wonderfully.

Very effective water heater

Comments about TK-4-OS Takagi Tankless Outdoor Water Heater (Natural Gas):

It took just 4-5 hours for our plumber to uninstall the indoor tanked heater and install this one. The electrical part my husband did himself. He said it was not hard. We have chosen this product because of good reviews and it was relatively less expensive than the ones at Home Depot and Loews. Also our plumber said he had this heater installed before, and never had any problems with missing or defective parts. I can say we are completely satisfied with it so far.

WOW

Comments about TK-4-OS Takagi Tankless Outdoor Water Heater (Natural Gas):

We chose this little powerhouse to replace our aging early generation tankless heater..Installation was a snap, even if we hadn't been trading tankless for tankless. The built in venting, the included remote temp controller and the very detailed instructions, allow even a novice DIY'er to get this unit up and running in just a couple hours. We used the install to upgrade our fuel and water lines also, allowing PRODIGOUS hot water output, even in our "cooler",Pacific NorthWest location. The units internal heater has only come on once, and worked as described. All in all,a terrific product,at a great price, with very fast shipping. 4 thumbs up from this household..

an excellent in-line water heater

Comments about TK-4-OS Takagi Tankless Outdoor Water Heater (Natural Gas):

It was great to get rid of our old water heater tank. Takagi unit is small, attractive and it is outside! The only trick is to find a quiet recirculating pump - you will need this to get hot water within seconds versus within minutes. Also, we look forward to the savings!

    Q:

It says OS --- and the photo shows a vent facing up.... what is the venting for the outside one?

The TK-4-OS vents horizontally from a port near the top of the unit. The illustration in the manual is not correct. No other venting attachments are required.

The unit vents out the top, front vent. You might be mistaking the mounting flange on top of the unit for a vent. I have this unit mounted in the available outside receptacle/box. The unit supplies all hot water for three baths , laundry, kitchen, and radiant heat for 1150 sq/ft house. I could not be more satisfied.

      A:

That's Odd. My OS unit direct vents form the front Panel at the top of the
unit. So it basically blows vented exhaust horizontally out from the upper
most part of the face Panel. There is not even a port on the top as an
option, so I don't know why they show it the picture. They are apparently
using a stock photo for all models which is oddly inaccurate. Check out
page 45 of the manual (on the product page) It shows a picture of al of
the different models, this will show the vent port.

I have the same unit i installed myself it is a great heater. The vent on top is the exhaust when the heater fires up the heat is vented out on the top vent. Just make sure you flush the unit out at least once a year. You can go on the internet and see how to flush a tankless water heater. If you have real hard water this needs to be done to prolong the life of the unit. I hope this is helpful info you can use.

Answered on 2/28/2014 by Roy from I don't think it matters how far. My gas line is out near my street and my water heater is in my back yard, and my heater works just fine.
