7 QuestionsQ: All- Does an air filter become less effective over time? I.E. ...in addition to putting strain on the air handler, will more particles pass through the filter? My filters are quite dirty after 12 months, wondering if I should be replacing more frequently. Thanks, ~Todd

Dirty filters cause the blower motor to draw more current, increasing your electric bill, and increasing the internal temperature of the blower motor, which can cause early blower motor failure. If you have to pay someone to replace the blower motor, it will cost you plenty! Do yourself a financial favor and change the filter more often. Leo Hogard
The company that services my unit recommends replacing the filters every six months.

Q: What is the difference between a "Charged Media Air Filter" and a "Media Air Filter" by Honeywell (20x20)? Will one put more of a strain on my air handler over another?

Verified Reply- PexSupply StaffA charged media filter has an electrostatic charge applied to it at the factory. This charge does help with air filtration. According to the manufacturer, pressure drop or restricted air flow across any filter is what can impact the HVAC system. An electrostatic charge by itself should not reduce or impact air flow.
Upon researching the media filters, I found out a big difference is the SERR rating. The Charged is a better SERR rating. The one I purchased is a SEER 13. Upon researching the question found the following: Whole House Air Cleaners mount between a furnace and the return air duct to capture airborne particles such as dust, pollen, bacteria, dander, spores, etc. Their performance is measured in terms of efficiency at trapping micron-sized particles. Removing a higher percentage of contaminants from the air may reduce the incidence of associated illnesses and allergy and asthma symptoms. GoodMedia air filters are the basic models, capable of capturing particles down to 1.0 micron size. Q: How thick is 20" x 25" Charged Media Filter? Can I use this filter in place for FC100A1037?

Verified Reply- PexSupply StaffThe FC200E1037 filter measures 4-3/8" thick. You can use it in place of an FC100A1037 filter.
I called alot places, it turns out that Honeywell stopped making the MERV13 for FC100A1037 filter and replaced it with the FC200E1037, which is also MERV13. If you are purchasing the FC200E1037, it should be exactly the same as the FC100A1037 MERV13. I have noticed the dimensions and measurements to be the same.
Q: RE FC200E1011 W IS THIS FILTER 4" OR 5" THICK ?

Hello,The filter we purchased number is FC200E1029 and it is 4.5 inches.....wide....
Thanks for the reminder to change mine. They are slightly more than 4 3/8".
My meaurement of the filter shows 4 1/2 " .
