Heat pump went bad after 2 years.
After two years, all of the sudden stopped producing hot water in heat pump mode. Luckily you can switch it to resistive heating mode (traditional electric heating coils) to get hot water, but it uses more energy and defeats the purpose considering this unit costs 3x a traditional electric heater.

I would ask for Mia again for customer service
Too soon to comment on the performance of the water heater. But getting that water heater to the job site without damage was a chore. Mia was great. On the third attempt one finally arrived without shipping damage. Mia was responsive, patient, understanding and accommodating. My thanks to her.

Condenser/Inverter doesn't last
We're on our third 80 gal Voltex hybrid. The first our plumber tagged as flawed right out of the box so we got a replacement. After 6 months the energy usage started to increase and it seemed to be running longer. AO Smith customer service tried to diagnose, but couldn't. After a couple of months where the numbers were getting worse, they determined that the "heat pump" portion was failing and couldn't be fixed, so they sent us a new one. We're now a little over the six month mark and the replacement heater is exhibiting the exact same behavior as the one it replaced. Our plumber confided that his cohorts are not recommending this brand because they are undersizing the condenser to save costs. It's a design flaw that can't be remedied by warranty. It cost us $1,500 to install the new water heater and AO Smith only reimbursed us $200 so replacing the heater every six months is not an option. There was a rebate and a tax credit so we don't have to eat the whole $3,200 but this was a costly mistake for us.

So far do good.
Water heater works as expected. Install is normal electric water install with the addition of a condensate drain. Not sure why installers seems to be getting a premium price for installation. The phone application that you can use to monitor heater is vary basic and certainly need some work to bring up to todays phone application standards. I have only had it running for about 2 weeks but I have plenty of hot water and according to the energy use on the application I am saving money in energy cost.

Great model - very efficient
Bought this to replace my old gas unit that had met its maker. So far, it's been running flawlessly, though it's only been about a month. Easy to install, but they're enormous and heavy. Definitely check clearance and have a plan for how you're going to move it to its final position. It took three big guys, but I have a kind of circuitous basement entrance.
