Most Liked Positive Review

Solid product, good solution.

In this instance I had manually built a 6 zone radiant floor system without zone valves due to budget constraints. After a season in service the system developed a leak in the slab. I had to isolate the 6 zones, in and out sides with ball valves. I choose crimp/clamp pex due to space restrictions on the valve install. There was no room for Uponor fittings. After install the leak was found and that zone abandoned. As a Professional Auto Repair Tech of 45 years, and a plumber for 20, I have used Zurn or Watts type crimp clamps on thousands of Bosch Fuel systems with total reliability, and this was true again with pex.

Much thinner than Watts (Murray?) kind

These are much thinner than the Watts brand (stamped "Murray" on them), also in stainless steel. Attached is a picture of 1 inch cinches, the HydroPEX (stamped "RF") on the left and and the Watts (Murray) kind on the right. I noticed the difference on 1/2 and 3/4 cinches as well. These HydroPEX (RF) clamps are much easier to cinch, being thinner, but certainly not as secure.

Worked as it should

It's a stainless steel crimp clamp. It worked as it should and I haven't had any issues with them and they are for a good price.

These clamps and compatible fittings are NOT for use with pex-al-pex. They are only compatible with the standard pex tubing.

I am not familiar with that tool, but it appears to be similar to the Watts Model WPCCT-6 Ratchet CinchClamp Tool, which I use all the time and is THE top of the line... I will say that I have used many of these clamps, and never had a failure... They work first time every time, make sure your tool is adjusted correctly.

1/2" clamps are designed to work on 1/2" nominal PEX tubing (which has a .475" inside diameter and a .625" outside diameter).

1/2 steel clamp for pex pipe, the inside diameter is larger than 5/8 http://www.jesplumbing.net

I'd say 5/8 since pipe ID is 1/2 in. JOHN LADD

5/8" I believe Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

The pipe is 1/2" ID so I would imagine the clamp, when clamped, is between 5/8" and 3/4" ID.

Crimp rings and clamps for PEX are normally sold by the nominal tubing size. so a 1/2" clamp is made and sold for 1/2" nominal CTS (copper tube size) or 5/8 od tubing and is slightly more than 5/8 id before crimping

Was this review helpful to you?

Assuming that we are talking about a clamp for tubing like PEX or hose then the clamp is measured the same way the tubing is. PEX is ½ inch inside diameter and 5/8 inch on the outside. The clamp is designed to slip over and then compress the outside diameter. I have used these on vinyl hose with a 5/8 O.D with success although that is not what these are designed for.

Dear potential buyer, I do not have the watts clamp, however I use the Lowe's Kobalt ratcheting crimp tool and it seems to work well with theses. I think they are fairly standard.
