Description

A Heat Recovery Ventilator is a complete whole house ventilation system that incorporates a supply motor and an exhaust motor in one unit. It is designed to bring a continuous supply of fresh air into the home while exhausting an equal amount of contaminated air. HRVs use what is known as a "sensible" heat recovery core. The special aluminum core transfers heat from the exhaust air stream to the incoming air stream. Fresh incoming air is tempered by the heat that is transferred from the outgoing air so you save on energy costs. HRVs are designed for colder areas of the country that have longer heating seasons as well as drier desert areas of the South.

Features:
  • Powder coated 24-gauge galvanized steel cabinets
  • Fully insulated with 1" aluminum foil-face high density foam
  • (2) German manufactured motors with backward incline impellers
  • Aluminum heat recovery core
  • Compact design
  • Mounting: Suspended by chains and hooks
  • Three speeds
  • Continuous exhaust only model
  • External screw type dry contacts for quick connection of remote controls
  • (2) Electrostatic filters (washable)
  • 50-149 CFM (24-70 L/s) @ 0.4" w.g.
  • 3' plug-in power cord
  • 6" side port duct connections

Does the job

We have had a huge problem with window condensation for years and it got even worse when we tightened up the house even further. I installed this product and within 3 days it had the house humidity down from 50% to 35%. Gone was the window condensation and mold issues. I do not like the installation instructions. I ended up pulling contaminated air from the cold air return and am pushing fresh air up into the furnace plenum above the furnace fan. Also I did not interlock the hrv to the furnace fan (as the instructions suggest) and the system seems to still work great. The unit is very quiet and seems to be well built. One thing I wished I had done was used pvc plumbing instead of galvanized piping, I think it would have made for better air tight connections. I did insulate the fresh air pipe and duct tape all elbows/connections. In closing, this is a must have for tight houses in cold climates with moisture problems.

Needs some work

Wiring terminals could use some work. They are located in a difficult area to wire, the terminal plug is backwards so you can't see the writing and if you have solid wiring the tension on the wires can cause the plug to become loose. The 20 minute timer function does not work on my unit. It must be a monetary contact but it only works with the button held in.

reduced my radon levels

I bought this product to replace the stale air that had radon in it, with fresh outside air. Radon levels went from 6 to about 1. Not only that, I have set to give me a positive pressure in my basement so it also has solve a water issue I had that was leaking in through my old basement walls.

Unit leaks air

Petty well built, except for the fact that every edge is perforated ( I assume it made it easier to bend) and so it leaks air form those edges, quite noticeable. I wish you had sealed those edges from the inside before it was insulated!

New Heat Recovery Unit

I installed the SHR Fantech Heat Recovery Unit as many of my house windows would get moisture on them. I saw a difference right away and now I only get moisture when it is below zero. I may be able to solve this issue as well as I am still learning how to best set the fan speed for use. We like the fresh air and our humidity has dropped for 50+ to about 36 percent

Perfect Replacement for Discontinued Summeraire

My 2001 Summeraire unit died and this one has similar specs. It was super easy to install and the bathroom "20min" buttons look great too! The twin brushless Motors/fans are super quiet. Shipping was lightning fast. Huge home upgrade!

HRV unit

Used to have a window sweating problem in my house. I installed a HRV unit and the problem went away in the matter of one day. The outside temperature was 12 and still no sweaty windows. Fantec makes a well constructed unit and it is very quiet. Would recommend this to anybody that has this problem

Haven't finished install yet, but..........

I've got the unit hung but haven't finished yet. I can only review on what I see so far. That being said, the quality seems very good. It came with all the hardware to hang, springs, chains, drain take off ect. The door seal is superior to other units I've installed. The core is well built and comes out easily.

Great product, great price, quick shipping

I replaced a summeraire HRV with the SHR1504 and it has worked well so far. My main reason for getting it was to eliminate the frosted windows in subzero weather here in Minnesota. It worked and it worked quickly in resolving the problem. It was very easy to install and I like the design of the fantech more than the summeraire because the fantech had the input and exhaust that come/go to the outside on the same end of the unit whereas the summeraire has one on each end.

The ventilator may be connected to a forced air furnace ducting in one of two ways. For detailed diagrams showing the options please see pg 10-13 located here http://s3.supplyhouse.com/manuals/1291051165926/41918_PROD_FILE.pdf
