JP13-03-137 Shallow Well Jet Pump, Stainless Steel (115/230V, 1/3 HP)

So it turns out that the pump and pressure switch are great. The pump is quiet and although I didn't test the flow rate with the hose bib open, I can tell that it's working as advertised. I asked Supply House for a replacement pump a day after I installed the first one and because Supply House is a fantastic company they did so without hesitation or cajoling. I thought I needed to change the pump because it would build pressure, shut off the pump and the pressure would drop back to the switch on set pressure, turn the pump back on and continue to cycle like this. I thought the pump was defective as the internal check valve was defective. TURNS OUT there is no internal check valve and the instructions are MISSING the most important piece of information.....MUST INSTALL AN EXTERNAL CHECK VALVE UPSTREAM of the pump. To be fair the instructions show a check valve if the pump is higher than the water source, but in my case the pump is lower than the water source so the inlet is always buried in water. The pump is great but without an internal check valve won't hold any pressure. I purchased an $18 check valve from SH and all works great now.

I got this for our offered set up because I wanted something high quality, but not too big or powerful that would overwhelm my solar system. This is a happy medium and way better than an average 12 volt pump you would find in an RV/ boat/ Off grid set up. It ends up pulling almost 1000 watts when it fires up, but that goes down a little and only runs for 20 seconds or so since we have a pressure container.
