14"ARD

I purchased two of these dampers to replace the failing units in my Carrier HVAC system. The original dampers had failing motors/gears. The motors were not replaceable. After doing a search on the internet for 14" ARD, I came across SupplyHouse. They had exactly what I was looking for in the Honeywell motorized damper. My system uses a RCS model ZC2S two zone 24v control unit. Installation and hookup was straight forward, albeit not much headroom in the attack. What I like about these units is the spring returns. My old units had springs attached to the stop screws, which would occasionally break or fall off. These Honeywell units use an internal return mechanism eliminating the stop screw attached spring. This is a much better design. These dampers have a foam seal inside the damper, which when closed blocks off any air in the zone that it is not needed. Lastly, the motors on these dampers are replaceable, which means I won't have to replace the entire damper for future motor issues. Nothing negative to say about these dampers, other then that they are made in Mexico. I would prefer USA.

Good damper. Good price.

Used on two zones when converting to 3 zone system. Combined with Aprilaire controller and one Aprilaire rectanglar N.O. damper. Adjustable stop point is very useful. All dampers are set to only partially closed - removed need for bypass damper. Very good price from SupplyHouse and fast shipping.

ARD8 damper

Installed this damper to a feed to my Florida room limiting the airflow to that room at nighttime to help keep the house cooler. The damper, transformer and wiring worked great for my project. I mistakenly ordered stranded wire but used it anyway due to timeframe to get it done before it got too hot to be in the attic.

Does what it says

Installed inline with commercial kitchen exhaust fan - to replace old power open/ power close damper that had stopped functioning -easy to reverse to power open. Seals out draft very well when closed.

Honeywell Electronic Damper ard9

If using this with the Zoning Panel you may need to switch one of the wires going into the panel from M4 to m6 as I eventually came across in the manual. After that it seemed to function properly for me.

Works great

I had one existing damper that quit working, and I couldn't get just a motor, so I bought this entire damper, which seems to be how this industry operates. I had heard that Honeywell was the best, plus the price was right, so it was an easy choice. It was very straightforward to replace the damper, but it still took two hours to remove insulation (neatly), remove the old damper, install the new one (including three sheet metal screws), replace the insulation, and duct tape it all. Confined space didn't help. If you're working in the attic, start very early in the morning becuse it gets hot up there earlier than you think. Much better than paying ~$600+ for a pro to do it.

Q: I have a motorized damper I use for make-up air for my Kitchen range hood. The damper is wired to open when I turn the hood fan on. Closed when the hood fan is off. Recently the damper opens and closes when the fan is in the off position. What would cause this?

That appears to be the wrong damper for your application. that is a powered closed normally open damper.

Q: I have one that stays in the open position when no power. Is there anyway to reverse it to be in the closed position with no power.

Yes, the damper can be field-converted to a power open/spring return closed damper when used as an independent zone or for fresh air intake for ventilation or combustion make-up air. Hi, The damper has two wire leads that you need to connect using wire ties to a 24VAC control circuit. Cheers, -Dave

The damper does not come with control wiring capable of returning to the control unit.  Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab®|PRO

Q: What is the net free area when open? These appears to be a lip that the movable damper presses against when closed. What size is that lip? I.e. How much does it protrude into the duct? If 1/2 inch, then a 7 inch duct size is effectively 6 inches?

Yes, there is a lip/ring inside which has a foam tape seal. I can't get at it to measure it, but from eying it I'd say the inner free radius is about 3/8" less than the nominal radius. Cheers, -Dave

Yes it does about ½ inch, if it calls to use a 7 inch use a 7 inch, it’s not about square inches if there is any type of fan sucking or blowing through it. (Static Pressure), If you are getting this technical you need to call in a mechanical engineer. Nick Duval, President City Wide Sheet Metal, Inc

The gasket material is roughly .500" thick so yes, the open area will be the duct size minus the gasket thickness. However, since the air flow rate from the blower is relatively low the gasket size will not hinder performance. Michael Nix

Q: Does automatic dampers come square? 20/1-2x8

According to the manufacturer, the ZD dampers are the square or rectangular versions of the ARD damper, and the ZD dampers come in many sizes. ZD dampers should only be used with zone panels. They should not be used as fresh air dampers or for independent zone control.

Q: Does the motor remain tuning when in the power closed position after the damper has been closed or does it continue to run to keep it closed.

When an ARD has been driven to the closed position, the blade hits the gasket and the resistance against the motor is high enough to cause the gears to lock up. When controlled by a Honeywell zone panel, the dampers are all open when in idle mode (no call for heat, cool, or fan from any zone). The dampers are also open when that zone is calling for heat or cooling. The only time a damper gets powered closed is when one zone is calling for heat or cool and another zone is not calling. At that time, the zone that is not calling will get powered closed and remains powered for as long as the panel wants that damper closed. As soon as power is removed from the damper it will spring open.

It was a long time ago, but as far as I remember the motor stops after the dumper has been closed.

Motor remains powered and 'stalls'. When power is released spring opens damper (turning motor backwards). You can reverse setup as well to make it a powered-open (instead of a powered-closed).

This damper is power to open. It closes via spring force once power is cut. So power on is open, power off is closed. Sent from my iBananaPhone

I don't think this is a motor; I think it is a solenoid. If youre refering to your zone controller and the fan motor; set your damper to be normally open. This way if your fan is still slowing down the dampers will open and won't cause an increased pressure in the manifold or collector box. Hope this helps.

Q: I have what I believe to be a 16 inch round honeywell damper in my AC system. The unit is set up for power close and spring open. The retrun sping is broken. Can I replace the control unit on top of the damper without changing out the entire damper?

Q: I have a swamp cooler hooked up to the same duct work as the Central HVAC system. I would like to damper off the swamp while using the heater or ac and not have the heat or cool air to go out through the swamp cooler. So I thought I would put in a damper, I want to control the open and close in the house and not have to climb up in the attic to do this. Will this do the trick? Do I just put a switch on it and open and close when I want to use the swamp?

While there is no concrete solution to this problem, we recommend applying a small amount of lube to try and reduce the noise the spring return is making.
