This tee would be needed in systems with monoflo pipe designs.
Mono-flo or one pipe hydronic heating systems were first commercially introduced by Bell & Grossett in the 20's or 30's. They are one of the simplest heating systems developed. The Mono-Flo tee has a partial restriction along the main direction of the tee. This restriction provides the pressure to move heating fluid into the branch line servicing a baseboard unit or radiator. The rest of the fluid flows on through on the main line. After flowing through the radiator the fluid is returned to the main line through another tee and onto the next in the system. The entire main line is one continuous loop both supplying heated fluid from and returning to the heat generator (boiler). Bell & Grossett's web site explains all of this.
this tee splits the flow thru the 3/4 inlet up the 1/2 and 3/4 outlet...it is MONO (single) FLO (direction) for baseboard heat systems. it has a vane cast inside the tee. be sure and check direction when installing mark plum
