LuxPro Programmable Thermostat 5/1/1 Programming (2 Heat - 1 Cool)

LUX understands how forced air actually works, and this thermostat has the features to fine tune your system. It's ability to program a range of temp differentials is crucial - and rare. A couple of years back, I needed to replace a 1980's era thermostat, but I couldn't find a new model that wasn't broken by design. Sure, you can program in a set point temperature. And they have plenty of programming features. And there are some really cool user interfaces. But I couldn't find one that allowed a useful temperature differential - "swing" - they all enforce a 1 degree differential and you can't change it. This results in short cycling your furnace, creating unnecessary thermal stress in the heat exchanger and burners, which leads to early failure of the unit. It also leads to cold corners and cool spots in rooms, because it takes time to circulate warm air being pushed out of your supply ducts to cross a room and get drawn back into the return air ducts. 15 to 20 minutes is a reasonable minimum period for an average living room, but 1 degree differential cuts the furnace off in as little as 5 minutes. The result is an uncomfortable room, fuel wasted to inefficient circulation, and carbon in your burners. As a bonus the furnace fails early and you get to pay for a replacement. So it was really encouraging to find the programmable differential feature in the LUXPRO specs. And I am really pleased to find how well this feature works. I settled on a 3 degree differential, which runs my blower for about 20 minutes and eliminates cold air pockets. The swing to 1.5 degree lower than set point is rarely noticed, and the 1.5 degree swing higher than set point doesn't leave us sweating. My furnace off periods are long enough to completely cool its burners and heat exhanger, which extends its life. This is how a thermostat is supposed to behave! A suggestion; it would be nice to have a beige color option.

This site was recommended to me by their competition, because they did not have what I needed. The delivery was promised on Saturday, but it didn't arrive until Tuesday. Luckily, I didn't need the thermostat immediately. I would buy this product again and use Suuply House if my local guys can't help. Product was a Very good price.
