Removal of the faucet cartridge retainer with this tool is accomplished in seconds. No damage is caused when using this tool so the retainer can go right back on after replacing a leaking cartridge. It's the only way to do the job right in mere seconds!

Would probably work if retaining nut is relatively new
I tried to take out a 13 year old retaining nut with this tool and it wasn't much use. The nut was firmly corroded in there and wasn't going to move even after soaking in penetrating oil and then vinigar. I ended up replacing the valve housing. Moen was very good about supplying all I needed, except this tool.
