Yes, the 100 micron filter removes sand from the water.
100 micron is perfect for sand. It will allow finer material (think silt or flour) through.
According to the manufacturer, the F76S1031 filter has a pressure drop of 2 psi at 28 GPM. As long as the system can lose a little less than 2 psi across the filter, it should work. Depending on the water quality (i.e. amount of sand) you may want to install the backwash control.

It will filter out the solids. It won't do anything for dissolved minerals.
