Replaced a 22 year oldTekmar unit

The Tekmar system worked very well for all these years only a few minor replacements. I could not expand the unit any more, like changing to programmable thermostats etc. So I went to a trade show and spoke to both reps, can't tell you the difference in both companies attitudes, I will not go further with this. Spoke to Taco, did my research, found Taco was less expensive with quality. Technical support was great and the ZVC406 was exactly what I needed and was easy to install. I can pick and choose what thermostats I want to pair up to the unit and will eventually buy the outdoor indoor sensor. Oh,and your company is always right on target.

Most Liked Negative Review

I would never purchase this. Be careful faulty design.

I used this control ZVC406-EXP and ZVC404-EXP for a 10 unit building with ten separate zone valves and PC700 boiler reset. After changing all the values, installing new t-stats, controls and reset I found out that my pump runs even if outdoor reset temperature is not met. I contacted Taco and they said this is normal operation "the control will not fire the boiler however the valve(s) or pump will run because a demand is present. No one typically would turn the heat on if it was 80F outside". If one of the units has their t-stat set to call for heat the pump will run regardless of out door temperature. This can easily happen in a multi unit building if tenants accidentally set or change t-stat. Let me make that clear, if it's 80 degrees, middle of summer, with a reset of 60 degrees and one of your t-stats happens to be calling for heat, your pump will run all summer. What good is this reset? This is not standard operation for other controls, Tekmar control does not operate like this. Don't purchase this control. Some of these reviews look suspect to me. Taco service was not helpful. Valves seem okay, but I'm waiting for that gotcha.

Get the expandable version

I bought this as a replacement for a taco zone controller that failed after 9 years. I got the expandable version this time as it has more features beyond just being expandable - specifically it has a setting for "exercising" the valves and pumps every 2 weeks to prevent them from seizing up over the summer. My thermostats have a similar setting to exercise the system but I like that I have the option of offloading this feature to the zone controller if I ever change out my thermostats. For the price difference of $11, I don't know why they sell the non-expandable version.

Failed after about 8 months

Installed this unit to replace a rat's nest of wiring along with some new t-stats. Definitely cleaned everything up and made it much easier to see what was happening/which t-stats were calling for heat, etc. With that said, the unit failed in about 8 months. 1 zone went completely dead (no power) and two others had a flickering power light. Had to buy a new unit at high cost and replace it to resolve no-heat situation. Have had other Taco's with no issues for a long time, very frustrated with this one.

I buy this brand regularly but return due to ship damage

The zone control. Was shipped on time and delivered without physical damage to out side of box. There was a delay at job to install control. Once open the box the control board was found with broken clips and loose board internal damage- since I needed to get the boiler system back on line, I attempted to install but the second -1of 2 transformer was overheating and the respective zone were not functioning properly. A return request was sent . I had to buy a taco controller locally.

Great product, easy to install, major upgrade

SupplyHouse had the right product at the best price! They also have the longest warranty/return policy. The hardest part of upgrading to new thermostats with C wire and modern controls was all about taking out the old WR valves and putting in the new Taco valves. The wiring is totally self explanatory and the options are great. We made one mistake on a thermostat, but the circuit board fuse did its job! swapped it out and all was good. This is an even better value given the transformers are integrated (a $50 value).

Great Product - Super easy install

Upgraded from a homemade concoction of transformers and terminal ends to this beautifully designed ZVC! Install was beyond straightforward and Taco has numerous helpful YouTube videos on how to wire this into your hydronic heating system. Finished result was neat and clean and now I can actually tell which zone is calling for heat! Priority function for the domestic hot water also a big plus!

Taco Zone Valve Controllers can only control systems zoned by zone vales. For your application, you would need part SR506.

Q: I purchased 2 Tao 6 zone valve ontrol Modules (with Priority) from your company. I have 12 thermostates. I have one main circulator and two small circulators to handle two remote rooms. I need the main circulator to turn on anytime any one of the 12 thermostates calls for heat. I need the two small circulators to turn on when a specific thermostat in the remote room calls for heat. My electrician is having difficulty understanding how the wiring for the 3 circulators should be installed. an you help?
