Almost 5 stars except for the T&P connection.

Installation was almost a breeze except for the T&P valve the heater did not come with. This pressure vessel was fabricated utilizing a 3/4"D x 1-1/2"L nipple instead of the normal 3/4" FIP that required an 8" long sensing element per installation manual. This required the purchase of a T&P valve that was $250.00 vs under $30.00. Poor foresight of Triangle Tube Corp. The Smart 30 Indirect water has been installed for a week now and has worked flawless with plenty of hot water for a family of 4 people.

Great product, well made, works great.

Absolutely use the thread sealant instructions on SupplyHouse's website. I've used regular old teflon tape for years and thought I could get away just using this for the tank fittings. Wrong! It leaked immediately. Disassembled everything, and used the Loctite 567 on all the tank fittings, as recommended, no problems at all for almost 4 weeks now. Oddly, there is no mention of this sealant in the instruction manual which came with it, but it made a huge difference. Save yourself some time and headaches.

Mine was built on a Friday, oops

Amazing product, they heat quickly and last forever. There can be some problem with the water stratifying into layers (i.e. super hot on top cold on the bottom) so you may have to adjust the sensor's height some to find the perfect spot, or use a recirc pump to keep it mixed up. Now to the Friday bit. The last one I received had no sealant, (pipe dope, tape, etc) on the sensor well into the tank, it took some time but it leaked and fried the thermistor leading to a bit of a mess and some wild temperatures. All that said triangle tube and supply house quickly issued a replacement sensor.

a solid tank

I wanted an exchanger tank that would live forever. This is it. All stainless, no enamel to fail and leak, no coils to rupture. This is a great tank for an apartment with it's own boiler. My only complaint is that the recovery rate is a little sluggish.

Highly recommend

Replaces a 30 year old unit from the same manufacturer. Water heaters usually don't last that long so when mine sprung an internal leak I was happy to see Triangle Tube still makes the same unit. Thermostat is built-in. No additional controls to buy.

I would defintely advise you to buy a larger heater for a family of 4 - especially if showers are taken in close succession. Barrie Bratt

Q: does this tank use propane gas and natural gas

Indirect tanks do not actually use any kind of fuel. They simply connect to a hot water boiler (which can be powered by gas, oil, electricity, etc.). Hot water from the boiler flows through a coil or outer tank in the indirect unit. This heats the domestic water without allowing it to come into contact with boiler water.

This water heater does not use either - it's indirect, using hot water from your boiler.
