Good Indirect water heater

Just had it installed a few hours ago 3-2025. So far working fine. A couple strong suggestions: First insist and I mean insist they ship it securely strapped to a pallet. My first one arrived with the top badly cracked - it was replaced immediately but the damage was unnecessary if it had been strapped initially. Second this unit requires a female fitting pressure relief valve NOT the standard male. Get one. Third, have a master plumber install it. Yes, you could do it, but I had the boiler professionally installed and the water heater required some plumbing skill beyond me, in addition to nipples, 1 1/4-inch piping W/unions - and removal and haul away of the old one. Lastly you will need a pressure tank, even if your boiler has one, you need to have one for this unit too. I know there will be some who disagree with me, but why risk it for an inexpensive part you can change yourself. It was worth it. Had hot water in 15 mins. Recommended. Will update if any issues.

Loved the Supplyhouse service, not so much on the delivery.

The service and quick shipping of my order was great. Choice of shippers, not so great. Everything seemed fine, shipper called to make drop appointment. It didn't show up, then we called them and was on hold for over an hour, and got diverted to the delivery department. They said they were sorry and made a new drop appointment. It did show again so we called the next day this time. Again they said they were sorry the item was in town but not off the trailer for delivery. Later that day we got a call that said, I have your order will you still be there if we bring it. Of course we waited. It was 10 days after the original appointment.

Too difficult to service

The tank operates as expected but has some shortcomings. 1. No drain valve. Do not discount this! Draining the tank is not easy, especially if it isn't piped correctly. 2. The dry well on the top of the tank is long. About 36 inches. If it needs to be replaced or repaired, a low ceiling will require removal (and complete draining) of the tank. 3. The inner tank (domestic water) should not be depressurized while the outer tank (boiler loop) is pressurized at 15psi or more. Not just any plumber will know this, and this situation can happen beyond your control like if a main water line breaks and you open a faucet.

Rust

Installed in line with hydronic heating system, to take advantage of heat pump efficiency, to heat domestic water. Good looking package. Nice clean fittings to plumb up to system. good installation and maintenance guide. Easy to read and follow. Brochure touts the benefits of Stainless steel tank. Nowhere does it say it has a steel outer tank. It started rusting within a day. the second day, it had plugged up the inline filter. Now I get to drain, flush and clean the system and add Rust inhibitor. For the price, I had expected a "Stainless Steel" tank.

One word.. AWESOME!

I'd always read these reviews and wonder who writes them... employees of the supplier.. or manufacturer... on their down time? I bought 4 Triangle Tube boilers and indirect water heaters for a 4 family I recently bought... I'll keep them as rentals.. and want to market them as higher end high efficiency.. anyway.. I read and read and read all the blogs, websites, etc.. one consistent theme.. Triangle Tube is the brand to get. AND.. being the tight-wad I am.. I shopped and shopped for the best price... (don't forget about tax[...]).. Pex Supply was by far the cheapest[...]VERY VERY happy. One you find something good, you want to tell people about it.. and I'm telling you Triangle Tube and PEXSUPPLY!!!

Smart 50 is Extraordinary

I am extreamly pleased with the Smart 50. We have a 110 gallon Jacuzzi and the Smart 50 handles it with a breeze. We never run out of hot water. The installaton was simple and streight forward. It is light to handle and very compact for its capacity. I find nothing to complaine about the Smart 50. Triangle Tube makes the best water heater of this kind. I highly recommend them.

The head loss on the Smart 50 Indirect is approximately 5ft depending on the flow.

Q: What size pump do you need on the boiler to get the maximum out of this heater? The connections are 1 1/4 for the water heater but my heat exchanger has 3/4.

We recommend a pump that produces 12gpm. Please, take a look at the installation manual for more information: http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1284470955247/39070_PROD_FILE.pdf
