You have to use either 1, 4, or 9 sensors

Important to note, in order to use this remote sensor with a Venstar thermostat you either need to have 1 wired sensor, 4 wired sensors wired in a specific order or 9 wired sensors wired in a specific order. You can not use any number of sensors other than 1, 4, or 9. If using 4 or 9 the thermostat will average all of the wired sensors and report that as the temperature. Other than that, they work well. I'm dropping it to 4 stars because Venstar should just add a setting to their thermostats to tell the stat how many sensors are hooked up and it can figure the math out based on that.

sensor for dual fuel system

I put this remote stat under the roof overhang as an outdoor input for my dual fuel system. It is a perforated soffit, so I noticed the attic temperature affecting the output. I was able to insulate the sensor with a foam pad used to seal exterior wall electrical outlets and a double layer of aluminum foil. Place the foam closest to the stat. If you have the aluminum foil next to the sensor, you run the risk of shorting out the two sensor leads and you will get a fault code on your thermostat. I find the output to be reasonably accurate.

Venstar 10k-Remote-Sensor

Works great as an outdoor sensor. I set up underneath my front porch roof. Keep it protected from the elements. Hooked up to my vanstar T 5800 thermostat.

Good Stuff

I used the sensor as an outdoor air tem sensor for my dual fuel HVAC system. It was easy to install and exactly what i thought i was purchasing. I was plesently supprised when it arrived at my house next day.
