Series 911 combination fill valve and backflow preventer consists of a Model 9D backflow preventer and Model 1156F feed water pressure regulator in one pre-assembled unit. This valve, for use in commercial and residential hydronic heating systems, is designed for use on boiler feed lines to provide make-up water to the boiler and prevent backflow when supply pressure fails below system pressure.

Series 911 combination fill valve and backflow preventer consists of a Model 9D backflow preventer and Model 1156F feed water pressure regulator in one pre-assembled unit. This valve, for use in commercial and residential hydronic heating systems, is designed for use on boiler feed lines to provide make-up water to the boiler and prevent backflow when supply pressure fails below system pressure.

I connected it to half inch copper. The line had some bend to it--not much, but overnight the threaded fitting cracked and caused a leak. I had to use an old one to fix the problem, The mechanical connector was cheap

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffThe bottom connection is a vent drain. If one of the checks are stuck or malfunctioning water will vent out alerting you to the problem of possible backflow contamination.

Not sure what you mean by "refill after purging" ? Purging is accomplished by filling the system at a rapid flow to drive out the air at which point the system should be filled with no air left in the pipes. The fill valve allows high flow when needed for purging but in normal operation is a pressure regulator usually set at 12 PSI.
