Description

Watts Ratcheting CinchClamp Tool is designed to be used with WaterPEX tubing and CinchClamp connections.

Note: If connections are made in temperatures below 30°F, caution must be taken to pause between ratchets, allowing the WaterPEX to form a proper seal against the barb. Do not use the Ratcheting CinchClamp Tool to remove CinchClamps. This will cause damage to the tool, resulting in improper connections

Works great.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this CinchClamp tool. First deciding on Cinch vs Crimp. I can't imagine using the bulky Crimp tools and keeping the little copper ring in place while getting set. With this true ratcheting Cinch tools you can start the cinch with a light press on the handle and it holds the stainless steel ring in its teeth for positioning. The tools is pretty compact and I have small hands but it wasn't a problem using this in a tight space. It doesn't even require a lot of force either. The result is perfect joints. I like the stainless cinch style I don't see why the copper ring crimp is so popular, when this is essentially an improvement over the original design.

Ehhh

It's great, when it works properly. It's a nightmare when they don't. I've been a plumber for about 15 years. Used this specific model and the cheaper versions as well (cheap ones usually have a light). They are all the same, sans light. They will work well for a while, then you will start to have trouble. If you end up going passed the white dot, the tool will lock on the ring and you won't be able to remove it from the ring. This may sound like operator error, but you won't necessarily be able to see the dot for every operation, i.e. up in a joist space. All-in-all, I originally purchased this May 2020, and now (Jan 2023) have to replace it (it is currently stuck on a ring & fitting. I tried prying it and even threw it at the ground, hoping it would pop off, with no luck.). I have made a few thousand connections with them, so maybe that's all you're supposed to get from them.

High Quality Cinch-Clamp Tool

I never used PEX piping. Lots of copper and PVC over the years for DIY projects but never PEX. The system looked simple enough but I had no experience. The project was to replace the shower valve in my motorhome and the final connections would be hidden. I did not want these to leak! I bought this rather expensive tool because it appeared to be of high quality, and it is. I never skimp on tools since your tools are the only thing between you and failure. This tool comes with a "feeler" gage that lets you adjust the jaws to the exact gap needed to make a perfect connection. It is very easy to use. A few test crimps to learn the technique and check the gap is all that is necessary. The white dot lets you know when the jaws are closed to the proper gap. This tool is an excellent addition to anyone's tool box.

Not to my expectations

I agree with an earlier post. This tool is akward to use. the head is so large it's difficult to see the clamp, I found it not easy to use with one hand, and the indicator light is nowhere to be seen, leaving one to assume it's clamped tight enough. I'll stick with Sharkbite.

its ok

So I'm a bit shocked to say this, since I'm a watts fan, but I have this and the sharkbite version and prefer the cheaper sharkbite version. This is a little stiffer and clunkier, despite the price. Works fine. Both of them beat the regular crimpers, but could be better in tight spots because of the handle throw.

The ONLY Cinch Clamp Tool You Need

I started out with the typical cinch clamp tool. It worked well but it had two major shortcomings. First, it was difficult or sometimes impossible to use in small areas (joist cavities). Second, its very tough on the body to use on larger clamps. The tool can truly be used one handed. Its easy to align the clamp while cinching because of this. Its much smaller which makes it much easier to use in tight spots. I've used this on 1" cinch clamps and for that I need two hands but it still is fairly easy. The ONLY negative I can think of is that the indicator is kinda cheap. The white dot is a fairly wide range. I just end up going as far as the tool lets me and that seems to be the best indicator you can get.

Nice Pex Tool for Tight Areas

I finally broke down and got this tool after struggling with my normal pex cinch clamp tool in tight joist cavities. I have always liked the standard tool but it does take quite a lot of force and a lot of room! This tool by comparison is much easier to cinch the fitting. I'm not sure its really one handed for me but it is certainly easier to use. My complaints are only that it can be tough to release the tool at the end of cinching and the "white indicator" is a little tough to see. I just cinched until it cinched no more and that worked fine. There just wasn't as much assurance there as the other tool that will only release once fully cinched.

One of the best tools I have ever used.

I great time saver for anyone installing pex tubing. The tool is compact and does a great job installing compression rings with only one hand while using the other hand to steady the fitting.

Worth the $$$

I love this crimped. I have used the other one and I find this one to be way better. I have used it on 1/2 & 3/4 and it works GREAT. I can't wait to try it on 1"

We purchased this tool over a year ago, and use it about twice a month for in house repairs and projects in our shop. I have never considered having it gauged. I have yet to see a crimp made with this tool leak. The primary reason we purchased it was for crimping the 1'' bands. They were too difficult with the smaller tool we have. This tool has a lot of power. -GP

It will work with any standard PEX cinch clamps within the specified size range for the tool.

I believe it does work with all types of cinches (within grip range). As I recall it is manufactured in N.H. by F.W. Webb here in the USA. Contact them for more info @ fwwebb.com.
