The vertical 70 Series low-profile design blends narrow width with new home decors. The universal subbase, for use with all 1E78 models, is designed to mount on a 2" x 4" junction box or directly to the wall. There is also an optional wallplate for use in retro-fit applications. The 70 Series thermostats are battery powered, making them easy to install and compatible with most heating and cooling systems. The vertical 70 Series is perfect for new construction customers who want a quick and easy transition to job completion.

Highly Recommended Basic Programmable Thermostat
Easy to mount on wall and to install (only two wires to connect for Heat Only). Temperature (room and setting) accuracy is better then the replaced Honeywell round heat only thermostat, CT87K. Works well!

It works.
I installed the thermostat in a small travel trailer to replace an old manual thermostat. The 1E78-151 was chosen because its vertical footprint fit the available space, it has a backlight, it is battery powered, and it works with a Suburban furnace. I am not using it to control the a/c. The unit appears to work as advertised, although it has not been used a great deal since installation. However, the clock and temperature features are working fine. The low cost of the 1E78-151 makes it attractive for camper upgrades. The only negative is that the display size is smaller than I would like to have.

White Rodgers 70 Series Review
I replaced the non-programable unit with a programable one. Big benefit, the base plate and wiring were exactly the same, as I expected. Just popped the old unit off and the new one on.
Seems to work fine- holds the temperature in the room well. A back lit screen would have been nice to see when the room is dark. Very minor issue.

Milivolt t-stat
We installed this thermostat on a milivolt system, and it works great. The only issue is this: Due to the length of our cable to the thermostat location, we needed to install 14 gauge copper wiring. The terminals on this thermostat did accept the 14 gauge wires, but it was tight. They could make the terminals a tad bit larger to accomodate bigger wires. If the engineers that design the product state that it can be used on a milivolt system, they should know that the wires could be larger than #18 from time to time.

The product came quick and actually works on my millivolt system. It was easy to program, too.
The only negative aspect I can think of is that the cover is a bit loose on the frame. It can easily be knocked off, but that's minor for me.

We have a very simple wall furnace which we often forgot to turn off at night. That was our main motivation to upgrade our thermostat to a modern, programmable model. Naturally we were apprehensive about installing it ourselves. And although there were many more terminals in the new thermostat the instructions explained everything. Within a few minutes the unit was installed and it has been working perfectly. We should have upgraded long ago.

Q: Thermostat is displaying the time (incorrectly) and no temp. None of the keypad buttons (run, PGM, time, hold are working). System switch is correctly set to "Cool" and batteries are new (just replaced). When the fan is set to ON, the fan works. Tried to rest as per the manual but nothing happens. Thermostat is 3 years old and was working perfectly until Oct 2011. The problem is noticed now when it is to be used for the summer.

Verified Reply- PexSupply StaffIf a voltage spike or static discharge blanks out the display or causes erratic thermostat operation you can reset the thermostat by pressing the up and down buttons and the TIME button at the same time. This also resets the factory defaults. If the thermostat has power, has been reset and still does not function correctly contact your heating/cooling service person.

W904 jumper is to change the display from Fahrenheit to Celsius or vise versa. To change the display to Celsius then simply cut the w904 jumper wire using a wire cutter. To change the display to Fahrenheit, then re-join the w904 jumper wires (if the wires are already cut) and for better result, you can solder the joint. After this, you may have to reset the thermostat by removing and placing back the batteries. Vilpita
