This thermostat requires 2 "AAA" alkaline batteries to operate. The batteries are located on the back of the thermostat body.
The Thermostat has a time delay between cooling cycles to allow the head pressure of the compressor to stabilize. If the temperature is adjusted to call for cool within 5 minutes of the last cycle the * icon blinks indicating the thermostat is locked out and the compressor is stabilizing. After 5 minutes, the * icon will stop flashing.
Check the wire connections to verify they are not shorted or touching together. No bare wire should stick out from under terminal screws. Try resetting the thermostat. If the condition persists the manufacturer of your system or service person can instruct you on how to test the Heat/Cool system for correct operation. If the system operates correctly, replace the thermostat.
Open the thermostat and cut the clip marked W904.
Yes, it is possible to change this to a programmable thermostat. It is a simple swap out. Just make sure you keep track of the wires.
According to the troubleshooting guide in the manual: If a voltage spike or static discharge blanks out the display or causes erratic thermostat operation you can reset the thermostat by pressing the up and down buttons at the same time while moving the SYSTEM switch from OFF to HEAT. This also resets the factory defaults.
The display light for this thermostat is not a replaceable part.
This product works great but; HAS NO TIMER. It is no frills. Kevin R Crain, D.C.
Yes, there should be a low but audible click.
The flame appears when the system switch is set to heat. It should have nothing to do with the battery. Refer to the manual ( http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1249544570102/White_Rodgers_1E78-144_Instructions.pdf ) for more information.
