Can't Go Wrong

The 1/2" AquaPEX was just what the doctor ordered. Very tough and durable. Rigid enough to guide through trusses, but flexible enough to make all the turns. Very difficult to accidentally compromise. I am cautions to remain well clear of heat sources except if intentionally removing a connection. I have attached an image of a home distribution point using the PEX "A" AquaPEX. I used both the expansion tool and a crimp-er, depending on what I am connection to.

shipping wrap

This product is very good with one exception, The plastic wrap that is designed to use from the inside works great until the last two wraps, at this time it is cheaper to throw away the last two coils than to try to get it out of the plastic The time it takes to free the pipe from the wrap totally wipes out any savings from the product.

Product arrived quickly and worked well

Used this pex tubing to replace the original copper pipe that ran under a concrete garage slab to feed an outdoor spigot. The copper pipe developed a leak, so I routed the pex through the garage attic and down to the spigot.

Love you guys Great selection / great service Do wish you would find a way to use less plastic packaging. We try to be as green as possible whenever it's possible. Some day plastics like that will hopefully be banned. You could get ahead of the curve!

PEX-A Pipe

Since my house was built with Uponor PEX-A pipe, when I had to add some additional piping to my house I chose to use this pipe. This does require the use of an Expansion Tool to get the full benefit PEX-A provides. However, this will also take PEX-B fittings and valves if you use ASTM 1807 crimp rings. This gives you the chance to easily expand your plumbing system.

We used this to replace galvanized water service lines to our 1950's bathroom. It was easy to work with.

Q: i need 1 inch aquapex at 300 ft but need to know. can it go underground 4 feet deep from well house to actual house?

AquaPEX tubing is approved for direct burial, but it's always a good idea to bury it below the frost line to prevent water from freezing in the lines. Information regarding the depth of the frost line in your area can normally be obtained from your water company or municipality.

We can tell you that the 300-foot coil of 2" AquaPEX weighs 204.6 pounds without any water inside.

Area of a circle is pi*r^2. for a 2 inch pipe the radius is 1 inch. Therefore the cross section area is 3.14159 square inches. Multiply that by 300ft (in inches - 300*12)=11309.7 cubic inches =48.96 gallons (divide by 231). each gallon weighs 8.35 pounds for a total of 408.8 pounds (water only - add pipe weight). Therefore the hangers will have to support about 20 pounds each assuming they are attached every 10 feet.

You can use AquaPEX in a water well installation, and it is approved for direct burial. You'll need to use appropriate PEX fittings to make any connections.

Q: Can aquapex be connected using the sharkbite or gatorbite fittings?

Yes. While AquaPEX is compatible with expansion-style PEX fittings, it also works with standard PEX fittings (including SharkBite and push-fit type fittings).

Q: I do not want to replace all the pipe to some fixtures. Is it ok to have a run of pex a and then leave the copper going to the fixtures? In other words intermix pex with copper? Replace the main 3/4 inch line with pex and leave the supply lines that are in the walls as they are, copper?

This would be fine and would probably save you some work. You'd just need to adapt the PEX to the copper with an appropriate fitting.

Q: Does the 3/8 aquapex come in blue and red? If I use 3/8 instead of 1/2 tubing to a bathroom sink, will there be a noticeable pressure difference?

3/8" AquaPEX is only available in white (in 400-ft. and 1,000-ft. coils). 3/8" is sufficient to supply sinks, but you'll want to run 1/2" to your showers.

Q: Can I us Aquapex to plumb into baseboard hot water heaters. The water will be heated by a oil fired furnance.

Asked by Robert 15 years ago

AquaPEX is not recommended for use is closed heating systems. PEX without an oxygen barrier will allow oxygen from the air to penetrate the tubing. This will cause any ferrous metals in the system (mainly cast iron) to rust.

Q: how heavy is a 350 foot coil of 3 inch pex tubing and how large in diameter i have worked with one inch pex and the memory is strong how would you control or straighten three inch?!

Asked by 15 years ago

Verified Author and ReplyVerified Reply- PexSupply Staff

3" AquaPEX has a 2.4" inside diameter and a 3.125" outside diameter. The 350-foot coil weighs 442 lbs. It would be difficult to install 3" PEX without the use of some type of commercial machinery.

Q: I plan to replace the galvanized pipes in the basement. Should I be concerned about UV rays coming though the basement windows affecting the pex tubing?

Asked by Kadex 15 years ago

You would only need to be concerned if the windows are not UV-resistant and the PEX gets exposed to consistent sunlight through those windows.

You are correct in the PEX cannot be used in any location exposed to UV radiation. most modern windows are UV blocking, so indoor exposure is not a problem.

Q: I am 17 years of age and have been doing plumbing for a good amount of time now i was wondering im doing a big job replacing all water and dwv pipes in the house what size pex would i use for the home?

1/2" PEX is the standard size of lines feeding the fixtures. 3/8" is usually sufficient for sinks and toilets, but it is usually more difficult to find parts in this size. Supply lines are typically 3/4".

In general, you should use the same diameter pex as the existing water and dwv pipes.
