The Good, the Bad and the Ugly but it works

The good - 2 loops @125' of 5/16" PEX is 2.5' of head flowing 0.6 gallons at 80f and it drops as the temperature increases. Another 3 to 6 feet for manifold and hydronic parts and a 15-58 Grundfos pump and you're cooking with radiant done right. The bad - 3 stars since that is no kit and pricing could be much better. And the Ugly - Uponor sells their "stuff" like Porsche and BMW Mini do, nickel-dime me to death. Uponor is Wirsbo American Style. I do miss you WhirIsBo.

I would not use this as they designed it...

The Quick track is nice but I would not use this as they set it up. What they do not bother to mention is if your flow rate is much over .4 gpm you are going to need two pumps to over come the head loss. Do the math and layout yourself so you do not need to spend more than needed on a pump.

You can either place the carpet directly on top of the Quik Trak, or put down a layer of plywood.

Q: I have a un-level floor and want to install quik trak with tile.. can I pour a self-leveler over quik trak than install tile as normal?.. and if I can't pour it over it why?

You can use the self-leveler, but you would need to place a cement board between the Quik Trak and the self-leveler. It is not recommended to put cement directly onto the Quik Trak because the moisture could harm the wood.

The manufacturer recommends that you use either 3/8" or 1/2" of durock.

Yes, you can place laminate flooring directly on top of the Quik Trak unless glue is being used to put the laminate flooring down. If glue is being used a piece of plywood has to go in between the trak and the flooring.

You can contact a certified installer to perform a heat loss calculation on your room. Alternatively, you can do it yourself using a guide such as the H-22 heat loss guide by the Hydronics Institute Division of GAMA.
