Neither pressure test kit worked

I tried to pressurize my hydronic radiant floor system but the pressure test kit would not take air pressure. At 25 psi, it began to leak. The leak occurred at the threads of the connector that has the pressure gauge attached to it. I tried everything I could to control and seal the leaking threads, but nothing worked. I was sent a second pressure test kit and the exact situation reoccurred. I had scheduled a crew in advance and as such had to pour concrete with no pressure in the PEX and not having completed a pressure test.

Works great

I used this to pressure test my uponor A2670801 poly manifold and radiant floor setup. Worked great, still holding pressure 2 weeks later.

Decent quality for purpose

Pressure test difficult to accomplish due to schrader valve leaking. Tightening valve was no help.

Leaky device

Be very careful how you assemble this test kit. I suggest teflon tape plus good quality pipe dope. The supplied nipple and body assembly leaked when first assembled. Only got it to seal with a new brass nipple and combine tape and dope application

Plan ahead for failure.

Plan ahead. If you need 2 that work, buy 4 I guess. Bought two and one leaks. Can't finish the job on time. Looking for a backup plan for poor quality product.

Not machined correctly

I bought 3 of these. The large brass fitting was/is incorrectly machined on all 3. They only thread in about 2/3 of a turn. I am an experienced auto mechanic so I know how to seal assemblies. I attempted 3 separate times and finally resorted to soldering it all up.I believe the threads were not tapped deep enough as they are pipe thread. Not cool when I have $200 in pressure test fittings and about 2-3 hours messing around and these were the only part of the system that had leakage.

Q: What adaptors do I need to connect this to 1" pex pipe?

The pressure gauge & schraeder valve assembly has a 3/4" female NPT--all the other parts in the kit are to adapt the 3/4" female NPT to the TruFLOW manifold R32 female thread. With that said, you could use a ProPEX Brass Male Threaded Adapter, 1" PEX x 3/4" NPT(LF4521075) and tread that directly to the gauge. Use an EP ProPEX plug (Q4351000) to cap the other end of the pipe. ProPEX Brass Male Threaded Adapter, 1" PEX x 3/4" NPT(LF4521075) is really a onetime fitting. Trying to remove the PEX from the fittings typically ends with a damaged fitting. Another option would be to use a WIPEX Fitting 1" PEX x 1" male NPT (5550010). This is a mechanical fitting that can be removed without damaging the pipe or fitting.

Go to local hardware store and buy a sharkbite 1² copper to 1² threaded coupler. Test to pressure limit of fixtures.
