Great Little Thermostat

By Big Ed

Comments about Round Non-Programmable, 1H/1C, Mechanical Thermostat:

My programmable thermostat went gaga, so I went retro with the old standby Honeywell hockey puck. No issues programming, no spontaneous changes in the programming as the old one had...just set it and forget it! Installation is a snap: clear directions, but with only 4 wires, how can you go wrong? Oh, and I received it the next day. I am pleased with the item, and the great service.

    Q:

does this thermostat have a battery that needs to be replaced.or can it run off transformer in a taco sr503.
Asked on 2/24/2011 by dont know from r.i.

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

This is a power-stealing thermostat. It steals power to charge a capacitor when it is not calling for heat. When it is calling for heat, it runs off the capacitor. That capacitor has enough power to call for heat continuously for 3.5 to 4 hours, and it only needs 5 minutes of power to charge fully. This means that if power is out for an extended amount of time, the heat should turn on right away for a short period of time (using the coin cell battery which is not replaceable), but then it will shut off for 5 minutes to charge the capacitor. Once charged, it is good to run. The thermostat must have a minimum of 20 VAC available at all times to the thermostat subbase.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

We recommend that you use the third setting ("Warm air, hot water, high-efficiency furnaces, heat pumps, steam, gravity").
