The Merit Brass union is a class 150 stainless steel 304 cast pipe fitting with female National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads for connecting and extending two male threaded pipes. The union
has three pieces and includes a threaded connection that can be screwed or unscrewed to connect or disconnect pipes more easily than couplings. It has NPT threads on both ends for
creating tighter seals than straight threads. Made of stainless steel 304, the lower carbon content of this fitting ensures higher corrosion resistance than 302 grade steel. This class 150
fitting meets standards ISO 49 and ANSI B1.20.1 for quality assurance. Class is a standard relating to tolerance, construction, dimension, and wall thickness, but it is not a direct
measurement of maximum working pressure.

I will continue buying these.
I'm a plumber for almost 30 years. I have seen prices rise and fall, I've also experienced many plumbing code changes. A few years ago my suppliers started to run them selves out of brass fitting and nipples, new "lead free" stuff was on the way and will take it's place. The cost for new lead free brass is higher than the old and that was already not cheap. I knew stainless steel was a better alternative (price and quality) but few (if any) of my local suppliers would stock another line of fittings. When I found out that "Supply House . Com" was stocking these stainless steel fittings I knew it was time to make the move. Stainless steel fitting are almost 1/2 the cost of "low lead" or "lead free" brass and like brass is very versatile. The quality of the 3/4" SS union from Supply House . Com is far superior to any union I've ever purchased.

It leaks
I've tried 2 of these on a water heater connection and they both leaked. This design uses a polished metal to metal seal and just doesn't work reliably. In desperation I tried coating the mating surface with pipe goop. It worked for about a day. It would be nice if the online description for these (and other) unions made it clear if the seal is O-ring or metal, but they all use the same exterior picture without stating or showing the sealing surface.

Union Hard to Seat
Union and threads looked good, one of the few low pressure threaded unions available. Needed it for an outdoor well head pressure tank. Threaded ends sealed well with regular tape but the Union itself needed a bit to stop weeping. Had to seat it a few times to get it just right.

Highly Recommend Merit Brass SS fittings
I am very pleased with the quality of the Merit Brass SS fittings. I changed my galvanized fittings on my well to all SS 304. They worked great. The galvanized fittings corroded badly after 10 years. And my bronze fittings in the well drop pipe had holes in them due to low water pH of 6.3 to 6.5.
I must warn novices to NOT use teflon tape on SS fittings. SS can gall badly. I used appropriate nickel added teflon tape + pipe dope suitable for potable water. No galling.

I surely would purchase this product again and again!
It's the best option for high pressure in the ground water line modifications when sweating and preasure banding is unavailable or not desired. Pipe wrap is recommended for earth buried plumbing. This 304 SS union is not as bulky and less flow restrictive than its brass counterpart. Great price as well!

Q: What is the mating surface of this union? Is it flat with a washer/gasket? Or is it a compression fitting (like the copper union that SH sells)? A picture of the internal workings of this item would tell a thousand words :-)

Q: would it be better to use stainless steel nipples and unions on a water heater versus dielectric unions, both installed to copper, which one would be the best corrosion resistant?
