Great service and shipping

Easy ordering and fast shipping helped me to replace my expansion tank less than 48 hours after it started leaking. Very important since I live an hour from the nearest plumbing supply store. As for the product itself, it's an expansion tank, unscrew the old one and screw on the replacement. The last one from the same manufacturer was on for 13 years. This one should be similar.

ST-8 is great for 75 gallon water heaters

The ST-8 is good for any 50+ gallon and up to virtually all 75 and even 80 gallon applications. The ST-8 is good for a 75 or 80 gallon water heater unless the static water pressure is above 75 psi AND you also have it set past 140° neither of which are likely in a typical home. Setting the dial above 140° is a waste of energy and can result in immediate scalds. Pressure above 75 psi in a municipal water supply is unlikely as long as there is a pressure reducer installed in the home and those usually max out at 75psi. Alternately, homes with wells typically max out at 60 psi at the pump switch. This makes an ST-8 fine for 75 and even most 80 gallon water heaters. The Therm-X-Trol tanks come with an indicator to show if the bladder has failed. My only complaint with these Therm-X-Trol tanks is that they seem to have very limited lives compared to ones made before about 15 years ago. Though not typical, I have had these fail in as little as a year. More often they will only last about 5 years. It comes with a 7 year warranty but still this is not ideal. My suspicion is poor quality rubber bladders or just poor quality control during manufacturing.

Nice product

Expansion tank of correct size. Competitors typically make tanks that are too small and too big. It was easy to install.

Outstanding product

Wonderful to find a USA made product with 5 year warranty which we can utilize on our hot water heater upgrades for our customers. We tired of the foreign made "Pro-Flo" 1 year warranted brand sold through plumbing suppliers; so this will be our standard product from here going forward. Price was exceptional too! This one is what was sized for a Rheem 75gal Nat Gas tank per Rheem sizing chart.

Product Q&A

1 Question
1 Question
ASK A QUESTION

Q: Amtrol ST-8: Does this tank really need to be installed "vertically". If it has an internal bladder to keep the air and water separated, and if it can be installed with the water connection UP or DOWN, it would seem that it would also function properly if installed on its side (with the cylindrical axis horizontal). I have a restricted installation space, and a horizontal installation would be preferable. Please explain.
