I would recommend this product to anyone.

This dehumidifier is Probably the best appliance i ever purchased so far(1yr. of 5yr. warranty). this dehumidifier works 24/7 no problems.Basement no longer musty, mildew nor mold smelling. do not have to empty water evaporation; that drains out my basement window via 3/4" drain tube; So far, so good. This unit is suspended from my basement ceiling, so its not in the way, nor does it get anything placed on it. I just, after one year according to direction, changed its filter; it seems to work even better. It is warm in basement so it does not freeze up.

Takes out the humidity

This is a well made unit. More compact than the Honeywell DR90 that it replaced. Was easy to integrate with the existing external thermostat control and pan float. Had to replumb drain line because Honeywell and Aprilaire air flow is 180 degrees different. Installer mode easily accessed and it was easy to configure the Aprilaire 1850 to my HVAC situation. Cranked up immediately after configuration and started making lots os water. This unit can dehumidify! Highly recommended.

Aprilaire 1850- nice but didn't last

I first purchased an Aprilaire 1750a. Its refrigeration system failed after just 3 months and was replaced under warranty with their new 1850 model. Good looking, quiet, worked great, So I bought 2 more. Very happy until I hit the 5 year mark and the refrigeration system failed in the first 1850 unit. Out of warranty and company declined help. Big question is whether the other two make it past their 5 yr marks. These units are pricey. If they don't last well beyond 5 years, the economics strongly favor buying MUCH less expensive Energy-star 70 pt units and replacing those every 2-3 years. I'm finding that 70 pint capacity is quite sufficient for my foamed attic and my crawl space, even in this very humid climate.

So far so good. I'm happy.

Our old dehumidifier ran constantly and maintained a 60% RH in our encapsulated crawl space. It took about a day or so for the Aprilaire 1850 to reduce the humidity to just under 50% and it runs intermittently as it should. The 1850 is smaller and lighter than the old dehumidifier. I installed it myself.

simple hookup, fast results

The installation process of this unit took under an hr and setup of controller less than a minute. No issue at all with this product. The home is 2600 sq ft. Humidity went from 72% down to 60% immediately within several hrs of operation, and then down to around 55% after a few days running. Considering the extremely wet summer season and how the house structure is like a sponge, I think the dehumidification process was quite fast and efficient. Now it only cycles maybe 3-4 hrs a day to maintain our set level around 52-55%.

Great build quality and quiet

This unit is installed as a standalone ducted installation for an exercise room. It replaced a 10 year old unit of another brand which just worn out. It is much quieter than the old unit, yet moves the same amount of air and removes the same amount of moisture (per each products specs). This is my first Aprilaire product and it is impressive. Build quality is great and the features set it apart from competitors. It was simple to install and set up. The compact size is a great benefit.

Q: What is the difference between the Aprilaire 1850 and the 1850W? Can either of these units be placed in the crawspace using it as only a Standalone system, Just for Dehumidification of the crawspace only. Anything else you may wish to add would be appreciated. STAN

According to the user guide, "The condensed moisture drips into the dehumidifier drain pan to a drain tube routed to the nearest floor drain or condensate pump."
