Works well, installation was straightforward

The water heater came in a timely manner. Shipping worked well, it did have on minor dent on the outside case, but not enough to go through the hassle of returning it. I took out my old Buderus water heater (15 years old) due to rust/ ceramic lining failure. I ordered this one since the sensor well would work with my existing wiring and as I installed it myself I wanted to make it as easy as possible. I did add in a mixing valve, the old one did not. I am hoping this one will last longer, as I neglected (my ignorance) to check the anode rod yeraly and clean it out. I have city water, so hopefully, that will allow me to get 20+ years... But that may be wishful thinking. Install took me about 4-5 hours - mainly trying to reconfigure the old pipes, to work with the new heater, and adding in the mixing valve. One negative is the clean-out port is significantly smaller than the old water heater, so when I open it next year I hope I clean it adequately per manual. I will not be able to fit a shop vac into it like I did the last one, to clean out all the debris that accumaltes. But if I clean it annually, that should not be an issue.

Awful unit

Bought this in 2014 to replace similar Buderus unit which failed. Coil failed today(Dec 2018) with anode replacement every 2 years. Quick search on the internet reveals that those tanks fail left and right. Buderus customer support is just awful. Do yourself a service and go with another brand.

Nine Year Life Span

Awful product. Even with a timely anode replacement the thermoglaze coating fails, crumbles to the bottom of the tank, clogs the drain valve and then corrodes the bottom of the tank. Finally the tank leaks from the bottom. Worse is that recently three were sent in for warranty claims and all claims were denied. Just easier to apologize and then replace the tank at cost for the customer with a different brand's indirect tank.

This is an indirectly fired water heater. There is no efficiency rating as it depends on the boiler it is connected with.

This depends on the boiler that is connected to the indirect water heater.

Q: Do you recommend using this with a Buderus G 224 Boiler and what would the EF be for that set up? This would be a replacement for a Rheem CL41X50 50 Gal 40k BTU gas water heater with a 74 gal first hour rating. We are looking for a long lasting and more efficient option. I don't like tankless water heaters especially because of the old galvanized pipes and don't want to install a new gas supply line either. I thought that using the existing boiler might be a good idea. What do you recommend?

Only the boiler, which actually makes the hot water, would have an EF number associated with it. The standby loss is 0.5°F per hour.

The energy factor for any indirect water heater will be directly tied to that of the boiler it is being used with. We can tell you that this unit has a 1 °F standby loss.
