- Hydrastone-lining
The concept of stone-lined water tanks is not a new one, and has been proving successful against corrosion for ages. Many of the stone-lined tanks are installed are 25-30 years old. In fact, the New England area has been using stone-lined tanks for years due to their water supply being very acidic and has been devastating to glass lined tanks.
Br> What makes the Alliance SL unique is the Hydrastone-lining. This one half inch lining protects the steel tank from the corrosive action of water. When the water first enters the tank, it is absorbed into the Hydrastone-lining permanently. This water loses its oxygen and becomes inert, non-corrosive water which then acts as a protective wall between the hot water and steel tank. This unique process and design makes Alliance SL water heaters a great choice for domestic hot water applications.

Great choice as opposed to on demand unit!
I bought this Indirect Domestic Hot Water Storage Tank because unfortunately I do not have any convenient place to put a wall mounted on demand hot water heater in my home.
With nowhere to vent a wall mounted unit I have added an additional zone to my existing boiler. The tank is stone lined and is a better option than a glass lined tank. Also very well insulated as well.
I know other homeowners that have indirect DHW tanks, and this was my choice after a neighbor telling me how well it maintains its temperature.
I'm not sure how it will compare to an on-demand unit when it comes to fuel consumption. I have observed my boiler in operation when the DHW zone calls for heat and it brings this 70-gallon storage tank up to temp quickly. It also does a great job of keeping the water in the tank up to temp as it is being used also.
I'm not expecting to find an unacceptable increase in my gas bill.

Q: how do I select the appropriate immersion aquastat to go with this product? I'm replacing an older Amitrol indirect heater, don't have much in the way of local support.Does the TPI or the aquastat come with the Burnham AL70SL ?
