Perfect for Make-up air

This is a great 6" make-up air product. I installed an 8" supply line from an eve opening & ran it through this and into my air handler on the return line. I also used a damper to adjust the intake resistance a little. We have closed cell foam in roof and walls so our house is extremely tight. We still have a little pressure when opening a door if we have exhaust fans on but just enough to know that everything is working just right. A little fresh air goes a long way. This came with a nice pleated filter (I thought it would be worthless, but it works fine)

Does NOT accept regular 10x20x1" filters - beware

Purchased this filter box from Supplyhouse.com. Box is well-made except that it's designed in Europe (FanTech is owned by a European company), and they didn't bother to adjust the dimensions for US standards. I can 100% verify that this box does NOT accept regular 10x20x1" US filters. I tried 3M/Filtrete, Honeywell, Dupont, and Accumulaire. 3M/Filtrete are 9.8"x19.8"x0.8" and warp the box if you jam them in, such that you can't even put the side back on. Same for Honeywell. Certain DuPont and Accumulaire filters come in 9.5" x 19.5" actual size, and I still had to crush one side of the filters to get them to fit inside the box. Totally idiocy. So, you're either going to crush filters like I do, which can't be good for the filtration, or spend 2x as much on the Fantech replacement filters that are no-name-brand and did an average but by no means excellent job, based on the one it came with). The Q&A on the Supplyhouse site saying that "I'm sure standard filters fit in this" is totally wrong. I regret buying this box.

Do not buy this filter box

Im another victim like others that left reviews. It will not take standard 20x10 filters. Only fantech brand filters will fit.

Well made with good seal

Box is well made with properly sized slot for filter and lid is well sealed. Finger screws are nice and overall, components are not bottom tier cheap. Does not come with pre-drilled holes, though.

Well made, simple design, and works great

Used the In-Line Fantech FB6 filter for outside supply air to an EVR. The EVR had a small and very expensive MERV 13 filter. The FB6 uses a much large filter with the same rating, cost a lot less, and is easier to replace. The only thing is the unit is not insulated and the outside winter air will makes the box very cold. I just added some insulation to the outside of the box.

Technically doesn't correctly fit a 10 x 20 x 1 filter.

As another reviewer stated, this box technically does not correctly fit a standard 10 x 20 x 1 filter. A standard 10 x 20 x 1 actual size is 9.75 x 19.75 x .75. You can easily find a 9.5 x 19.5 x .75, as the fantech unit states that it is. However, the fantech fitters actual size is about a 1/16 short of this, and the 9.5 x 19.5 x .75's I've found are actually about 1/16" over that stated measurement totaling about a 1/8" difference. This difference is just enough to make closing the door a little difficult. However I am able to get it closed without air seeping out of it- so still happy to have the unit.

Works well

Works well for what I needed. I is filtering cold air in a heated space, so I needed to insulate it. An insulated model would be nice.

Q: Will this take away smell as well?

The FB6 inline filter is designed to reduce the level of particles in your home's air which includes dust and hair, however it is not specifically designed for order control. An alternative unit with a carbon filter and 8" connections for order control would be the CM3000 http://www.supplyhouse.com/Fantech-CM3000-HEPA-High-Efficiency-Whole-House-Collar-Mounted-Filtration-System-240-CFM

NO. The reply saying any standard filter will work is incorrect, and I regret relying on that misinformation when buying this box from SupplyHouse. The maximum length of filter you can fit in the slot is 19+10/16". This means you CANNOT use 3M Filtrete filters, as they are 1/16" too long (actual length of 10x20x1" is 19+11/16") and warp the box into a slight trapezoid as you try to jam them in, such that you cannot close the box (as I've spent the last few hours tinkering with unsuccessfully). Same goes for several other major filter manufacturers. You're essentially stuck ordering no-name brand "MERV 13" filters that are clearly inferior to the 3M Filtrete MPR 1900 (MERV 13) in terms of pleating and construction quality. I regret ordering this Fantech FB6 for that reason, as this filter dictates the air I breathe in my home. Also, Fantech should make the filter 14x20x1" to reduce the pressure drop and also allow for a wider variety of replacement filter options, because the 10x20x1" has a much more restrictive selection that 14x20x1" (e.g., 3M makes MPR 2800/2500/2200 filters in the common 14x20x1", but not in the less common 10x20x1"). Plus, the pressure drops in the Fantech manual are wrong, and the company won't call back.
