FML8 Fixed Metal Hood for Supply or Exhaust, 8" Duct (Single Unit)

The product was well made and was delivered as promised. I liked being able to unscrew the cover piece to be able to screw in the base. I knew what I was buying so these "even better if" comments were not unknown to me - would be better to have a longer duct connection piece (like 6-8 inches). If installing on a studded wall, you have to add a length of duct to the vent to be able to push the vent into place and connect a hose or duct to the end. I also wish is had a backdraft flapper (again, I knew it didn't have one when I ordered it).

This 10" exhaust hood was to replace a rusting, ages-old one during remodeling of my residence. I was dumbfounded to find that there was NO baffle intrinsic to this unit. (Design issue) The screen grill has quarter-inch openings, plenty of room for bugs and bees to crawl through! (Again, a design flaw) If the bugs didn't have enough room to go through the screen, they could always use the gap created because the screen was over-sized and bunched up. (Quality control issue) I had bought two of them, and the other unit had a properly fitted screen, albeit still 1/4" grid openings. I then spent more money to get the butterfly baffle with duct. The two devices cannot interconnect; a female/female coupler would be required, and a residence wall is not thick enough to accomodate one. I am returning the baffled duct. I had my contractor discard the duct from the hood, insert window screen, and screw-attach the screened hood to the house. A 10" baffle will be simple to insert. Very dissatisfied.
