Blissfully quiet kitchen!

HALLELUJAH!!! I'm no longer being driven crazy by the loud exhaust fan in our kitchen!! In remodeling our kitchen several years ago we included a decent quality hood over our stove. It had a two stage fan with 8" ducting. Even on low speed it was incessantly grating. Whenever I saw my wife pull out the big soup pot, to be simmered for a couple days, with the stupid fan running, the kitchen became a place to avoid. When I couldn't take it anymore, I found a source online (Supply House), for an inline, centrifugal fan (FG Series, 8"), a muffler! (LD8, Silencer), which I never knew even existed, a backdraft damper (RSK8), and secured it all together with some slick, cushioned clamps (FC8). It all works beyond my expectations, compared to the previous racket, it's exquisitely quiet, you just hear air whooshing along, and it's not at all annoying as before, especially when you throttle it down with a speed controller (WC15), (for when you're simmering soup, for instance) I'm including a shot of the controller I pop riveted to the hood. The attic fan and muffler is pictured too. The backdraft damper is not visible from behind the clamps. I did the installation myself, but would have gladly paid for someone to do it, it's that good!

more noise then the older plastic housing model

The older plastic housing unit lasted 20 years of almost continuous use. Quiet only could hear the air moving the new stamped steel housing unit is much noisier. Not sure if a better product is out there now. Considering the track record of the old one the new one seemed to be the answer.

Replacement for 18 year old Fantech Fan

I purchased this attic fan as a replacement for one that is no longer sold. It was easy to install although I wasn't able to use the bracket that came with the previous fan - had to use the new bracket that was included with the new fan. The old fan lasted 18 years and I hope this one will last as long. The old fan still works, but the plastic housing got brittle and it fell down from its mount so it wasn't safe to reuse. Will edit review (if allowed) if something happens in less than 5 years!
