Roof Mount 10" Centrifugal Duct Fan (1,008 CFM)

Great vent option. We are looking at adding a second vent as our business grows.

This is a review of the Fantech RE10XLT that I bought in December 2015. The unit was installed on a 9/12 pitched residential roof to serve as a remote fan for an existing kitchen hood, replacing the hood's internal fan. 1. An EBM Papst motor is at the center of a design well-executed. Smooth bearings and great balance, I suppose, make it as quiet as reasonably possible, especially at higher flow rates. (I had the 6-inch model of this fan on my roof serving a bathroom for almost 15 years, mostly running 24x7 at low speed, and it was flawless.) 2. This is an ideal fan for infinite speed adjustment, which is provided by a knob on my existing kitchen hood. I usually run it at the lowest possible speed, boost it somewhat for frying or broiling, and will only rarely run it full tilt. I would never use this fan without speed adjustment, and I doubt I would be happy with a HI-MED-LO controller. 3. The duct collar is deeper than indicated by the manufacturer's drawing, showing that the 1.5" curb (H) is deeper than the duct collar. Wrong. The duct collar is about 2.5 inches. I don't have the curb model, so that collar sticks out an inch farther than I had expected. I had to trim it down with tin snips due to mounting limitations, which wasn't a big deal. 4. I agree with the previous reviewer that the packaging was poorly designed for UPS shipment. This package should have been packed inside another carton. It's a very large box, so I understand the trade-off, but it's hard to imagine thinking this was going to arrive without bumps and bruises. The unit arrived with the mounting plate bent. The rain cap was dented. The rain cap mounting brackets were bent off-center. The packaging consisted of a bottom cap of corrugated, a square corrugated wrap, and a top cap of corrugated. Inside were corner pieces of extra corrugated, which were just loose in the carton when I opened it; no idea where they were supposed to be. There were two plastic straps holding the whole package together. If I hadn't had a very tight installation schedule, I probably would have filed a claim. As it was, the thing is designed for roof-mounting, so cosmetics weren't much of an issue, and I worked things back close to true with a rubber mallet and a large wrench. I tested it immediately and it sounded perfect. 5. Order processing and shipping: I received my online order confirmation at 5:13 PM Eastern Time, and it was "Origin Scanned" by UPS at 9:38 PM. Arrived two days later. And I didn't even pay anything extra for expedited shipping. Well done. I paid for this unit personally, have not received, and will not accept any compensation or discount for writing this.

Pro's - welded fan turbine is constructed well and runs smooth at full speed. Solid construction does not vibrate at high speed. Con's - No rodent screen so easy for critters to crawl into unit. Packaging was completely insufficient for shipping and arrived dented up. Fortunately I was able to tap out most of the dents with a mallet.
