Excellent silencer for 10" ducting venting

I used to have a silencer which was 2"thick but this is even thicker a d reduced the dB by 10. It used to be around 76 now it's around 66 dB.

    Surprised by decreased noise level

Installed the unit and turned on vent hood. Wow! We can now have a normal conversation standing directly at the range. Huge decrease in noise from the remote blower unit. Highly recommend this unit for a remote blower system.

    Worth every penny!

Installed on a 42inch ProLine hood with 1100cfm remote fan. The silencer took ALL hum sound out of the fan and 50 to 60% of all air flow sound was reduced. This with three 90 deg turn and the first is immediately out back of hood.

    Awsome if fit

It would have quieted down the sound if I could have made fit.. not enough space in ceiling.

Cant tell how well improves sound

Used this to silence the 800cfm fan tech inline fan. I dont know how much it really silenced fan but I needed to do anything possible to make the best install for no future complaints.

    Bulky but very effective

This silencer occupies three feet of duct length and occupies an equivalent duct diameter of 13 inches. Quite large. However it does muffle the blower noise and roof cap noise. The only the wind noise through the range hood, a Fantech SGHL 36 (modified for 10 inch ducting), is evident

    How quiet it is!

I only wish Fantech would have put a layman's guide to buying this system. I bought the fan first and it was hard clamped into vents. It was so noisy we couldn't talk in the kitchen and hear each other. So I bought the silencer and rubberized claps to install it. Luckily my heating specialist read the materials. The fan, not the silencer, was supposed to be mounted with the rubberized clamps. That was redone corrected and the silencer install between fan and stove vent. What an amazing difference. It is so quiet in the kitchen it far exceeded my expectations. Fantech fan is so powerful it with suck the pancakes out of the frying pan....kidding of course. Buy the whole Fantech system and you will have commercial grade system in your gourmet kitchen at half the price of other more well known brands. Highest recommendations. Add a backdraft damper if you don't already have one in your system.

    Effective but awkward

Substantially reduces noise levels without limiting airflow. Beware that the unit must be located next to and downstream from your fan and it has a large diameter, so your chase will need to amply sized to accommodate the noise reducer. Most effective absorbing the higher frequencies, leaving an acceptable low hum/rumble. With a Fantech roof-mounted ventilator, it is possible to a have a conversation under the hood without raising your voice when the fan is running full speed.

    What an improvement!

Nine months ago, I had a kitchen hood installed with a Fantech FKD10xl exhaust fan. In spite of the fact that the fan was remotely located in the attic significant air flow noise was present in the kitchen even at the lowest fan speeds. At higher fan speeds, normal conversation was impossible. The silencer made a huge improvement. At the lowest fan speeds, noise is barely noticeable, and the highest speed is now similar to the sound of the unsilenced low speed setting. The is quite acceptable, since this fan is so powerful that the low speed setting is almost enough to ventilate a 36inch cook top.
