Helps Divert - Would Could be a Flooding Disaster!

When my gas hot water heater sprung a leak and flooded my basement, I decided to purchase this FloodStop product in 2007 for the new replacement hot water heater tank. I checked the backup batteries every 6 months or so and did a test valve open/close cycle on a regular basis as recommended. Knowing that technology overall has its share of disappointments - I wasn't sure if this device would prevent the flooding incident from occurring again. Well, two weeks ago, the FloodStop alarm was going off early morning indicating a leak, and the only water that actually leaked out of the thirteen year old tank, was aprox. one half gallon into the metal pan directly under the tank, the FloodStop Alarm successfully detected the leak and automatically shut off the valve to the cold water supply line. I was so pleased that nothing got water damaged, so without hesitation, I purchased another of the exact same FloodStop Alarm for the new replacement hot water tank going in now. Based on my experiences, I would highly recommended this product to anyone installing a hot water tank. I purchased an extra water sensor in 2007 and placed one water sensor inside the pan under the tank (sitting on a piece of paper towel-to prevent the metal pan from accidentally tripping the alarm) and the other outside the pan directly on the concrete floor.

Gimmick

The only thing it's done for the last 20 years is get a drop of water and stop me from doing laundry. I hate this device. It's a rip off and a gimmick. Never had a washing machine leak ever and I'm in my mid 50's. Gimme a break

Would have saved so much time and work.

HVAC company owner. Bought this for my own home so I do not have to worry about my new solar storage tank flooding my garage like the old one did. Took a week to remove everything, sort and throw out was not salvageable, dry the rest and move everything back in. Recommend them to all my customers.

Easy to install. Works well.

Hooked it up and it worked right from the get go. Had to replace the intake hose. The valve made the pipe a little bit longer and that was enough to need the longer hose.

Highly recommend this product

I have purchased three of these systems and told others. I have two condos on the third floor and this device has saved thousands of dollars. I had a clothes washer that failed and would have flooded the two floors under us if this device wasn't there to shut off the water. I have a device on each condo's water heaters also. The devices cycles every 24 hours to ensure it is working. I had one valve that had gotten a piece of material in the line and the unit failed to close. The outside meter had been replaced and reason for the material in the valve. My condos are short-term rentals and a couple of times the people had moved the detector strip in the hot water heater pan and caused an alarm and was easily corrected by wrapping the detector with cotton rags. I can't note enough the peace of mind that these devices provide me as an owner of condos that are 7 hours away from where I live. I wish I could get all the owners in our complex to install them. This is the second time I have ever posted online to recommend anything and this is a great product and it is worth the money. Great Job!!!

Definitely a good product

I had never heard about this product until doing a internet search for products that would protect the home in the event of a water heater failure in a second home where I do not live full time. It was an easy install, only requiring the purchase of two brass couplings that were available from the local big box store.

Q: Once alarm goes off, how do you reset it. I can mute the alarm but valve does not open when button is pressed."?

Hi Larry. After muting the alarm, you will want to dry the sensors of any moisture to fully reset it. If the alarm is still going off, you can just remove the 9V battery from the sensor. To open the valve back up, you'll want to press the "close" button once, followed by the "open" button once. The solenoid should then open.
