First pump didn't work.

I am remodeling a house built in 1989. The hot and cold water are run under the slab. The under slab lines are looped from one fixture to the other. So, theoretically, if you tie a return line to the furthest point from the water heater it should circulate hot water throughout the hole house system. I was remodeling the Master bath and had an opportunity to run a return line from the shower which is on the opposite end of the house from the water heater back to the water heater in the attic. I did all this with PEX and insulated it from end to end. I got the UP-10 with the female NPT union on each end. This one contains a check the some other ones do not and you have to add a check valve in the line somewhere. However, when I got it I discovered that the Union would not match up with any standard plumbing unions. I called Grundfos and found out that I should have ordered the other ends of the union. I ordered these and everything matched up perfectly. I hooked everything up and nothing happened. The pump is so quiet I could hardly tell if it was running. I checked everything that I possibly could and I believed everything was correct. I put in a replacement request for the pump to SupplyHouse. They sent me return instructions and I sent it back. After they received it they sent me another pump. I hooked it up and it works beautifully. I cannot testify to the smart pump part. I read somewhere that running this pump 24 hours a day for a year would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $9. If that is the case I want hot water in the master whenever I turn on the faucet and that is what I have. So I am happy. The purchaser of this house will have the option to run it automatic, thermostatically or continuously. I advertise it as a smart hot water recirculation system - which is true and it works fabulously.

AutoAdapt doesn't work.

The AutoAdapt "feature" of this pump does not work at all. I left it in AutoAdapt for over 2 weeks, in which time it's supposed to "learn" when you need hot water, and it never provided hot water at the faucet. In order to get hot water you have to select the 100% setting which means it runs continuously, and unlike the previous model this model does not include a timer and therefore runs 24/7. I even tried plugging it in to an external timer, but discovered that when the timer turns the pump off at night, it defaults back to AutoAdapt in the morning so you still have no hot water and you have to go back out and turn it to 100% again. And even if AutoAdapt did work properly, if you ever had a power outage not only would it default back to AutoAdapt, but you would lose any "learning" it may have done and you'd have to start over. As long as you're willing to leave it running 24/7 and have hot water circulating all night when you don't need it, it seems to work fine, just don't expect the AutoAdapt function to work as advertised. The previous model was much more effective. It had a built-in timer, a temperature selector, and no AutoAdapt, so you never had to mess with it once it was set. This model has fewer features, doesn't work properly, and requires you to turn it on and off every day. Very poor design.

Great pump for DHW Recirc

I like the ease of programming. The smart program feature really cuts down on pump run time and will def prolong the life of the pump. Motor is also replaceable without removing the entire pump from the line.

Not sure. Very poor directions on how to install.

Product works very well but not sure how it really works. They did not provide a brochure which gave a good description of how the pump works. The directions to install the pump were just some pictures that left a lot of information out. I did speak with someone from Supply House who gave me a very good instructions on how to install the pump. The pump has three options and none seemed to fit my life style. I would have preferred an option that just me set the time for when it was on or off. I am retired so do not have a life style that has any real pattern to it.

Very good product

The timer was easily installed, unfortunately the first one I received was faulty from the factory. However, after a quick phone call a new unit was on its way and delivered the next day. Great service and good products at a fair price. Thank you!!

Q: what does the maximum head range mean

Asked by Carl 14 years ago

This means the maximum pressure that the pump can produce. Feet of Head and pressure are the same thing. If you had 10psi you would multiply that by 2.31 to get Feet of Head. If you had 150Ft of Head then you would divide by 2.31 to get pressure.
