Slow is a relative term

I needed this for a building project, not a plumbing project. The idea was to build a "tot-dock" for swim lessons. Of necessity, sometimes it was necessary to apply glue to as many as four joints at once before joining two assemblies together. Therefore I really needed slow-set PVC cement. This product got the job done, but the open time shown on the spec sheets were quite optimistic in my opinion. I planned my assemblies such that the more complicated setups were performed in the morning, when the temperatures were in the 50's. I should have had a couple of minutes to get the cement applied to multiple joints, and then get them together. In reality, it was more like 45 seconds…which was just enough time. The project was a success, but if you need long open times to apply cement and get everything squared-up and together, this may not be what you want. It did seem to hold well, and because it's fairly thick it was easier to control or stop the cement from running all over.

Too thick to flow properly

I purchased this product in an attempt to double the cure time for making PVC solvent welds. I had a large job in tight spaces where fitting alignment was critical. Although the product did allow about 6 minutes to set, it was so viscous that it was hard to brush on the pipe ends and into the fitting sockets in a reasonable amount of time. It's almost as if any curing time gain was lost in applying the cement. Of course, this may have been an old can that had set on the shelve for months before I bought it.

A little more time

Slow Set PVC cement gave me a little more time, which is all I needed.

I needed the slow setting and this did it.

I used it to clue up a project made of PVC panels so I needed the lower setup time, it did just as promised. I wish it came in clear version although.

Slow set

I get a bit more time with the slow set. The heavy body is great with connections which are a bit loose. The larger applicator makes it easier with the 4" pipe that I have been connecting. Wouldn't be good for small diameter pipe.

Perfect to get a little extra time

Used it in an existing wall to move the vanity drain up. I had to use a couple of slip repair couplings and it was nearly impossible for me to get the job done with regular primer and cement. I couldn't get the coupling over the joint. Only by using this slower setting cement was I able to get a good deal. I had about 8-10 seconds with this compared to 2-3 with regular cement.

Good delivery time

Everything went well but I order it to late and it is too cold to use now … it's now a spring task.

allows a little extra time

The slow set allows you a little extra time to position pipe and fittings, the heavy body fills gaps and loose fittings, the larger applicator holds more glue which is a plus when working with larger diameter pipe

Slower is better sometimes

For those of use with only two hands and less than lightning speed, slow set PVC cement can make the difference between success and, well, multiple profanities. It doesn't give you minutes to play, but it will give you 8-10 seconds to get that coupling on and twisted before it sets up. The "heavy body" part of this PVC cement is less impressive--at least on the two and three inch fittings where I've used it. I was surprised that of all the plumbers and supply house people I asked, only one person had heard of a slow set PVC cement. Thank you SupplyHouse for carrying it!

The cold water pressure for this cement is actually based on the rating of the PVC pipe. That Schedule 40 PVC has a maximum operating pressure of 110 PSI.
