More About Plumbing Chemicals & Compounds
Chemicals and Compounds are essential accessories that clean, seal, and preserve connections in plumbing applications. Many plumbing projects would not be complete without the use of the following chemicals and compounds.

PVC Primer cleans PVC and removes any dirt on the interior or exterior of a pipe or fitting. Priming PVC is required to ensure a secure connection before gluing PVC. This step also softens PVC to ensure a better bond between the pipe and fitting. Certain plumbing codes require a purple colored primer to show evidence of use.

Plastic Pipe Cement joins plastic pipe and fittings together. Different cements are recommended for PVC, ABS, and CPVC should be used accordingly.

Block is used to seal joints, valves, flanges, and gaskets.

Plumbers Caulk creates waterproof seals used on tubs, showers, tiles, walls, windows, and doors.

Sealant provides waterproof protection that is applied like caulk, but seals like rubber. Various sealants can be used to adhere to wood, glass, porcelain, ceramic, metal, concrete, tile, and roofing.

Sta Put Putty is a pliable substance used to create watertight seals around faucets and drains. Putty is considered one of the basic plumber tools and is often used any time plumbing fixtures are replaced. A bead of putty can be placed around the base of a faucet before it is attached to the sink, and the excess wiped off. The putty will seal the join between the two, preventing water from seeping in.

Thread Sealant fills in cracks and thread imperfections required to seal a leak free joint. Thread sealant is used for joints, valves, flanges and gaskets.

Epoxy seals, mends, bonds, and repairs metal, masonry, wood, glass, ceramics and some plastics. It can be used under water and dries within 20 minutes.

Soldering Paste or "flux" should be applied to a copper fitting after it has been cleaned. Flux will keep the copper from oxidizing when heated. This provides a firm bond between the copper and the solder. A quality soldering iron is needed to join the copper pipe and the fitting.

Furnace Cement seals and repair boilers, furnaces, flue pipes, and a number of furnace and refractory applications.

Multipurpose Heavy Tape Dope is used to seal all types of threaded pipe, valves, fittings, accessories and controls. It can be used on steel, galvanized and black iron, brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, glass, monel, synthetic rubber, and all plastic material.

Drain and Waste System Cleaners provide solutions for a variety of specific needs. These include emergency drain openers, drain system maintenance including unique clog-specific formulations, septic system care and repair, root controls, and unique grease management products.

Leak Detectors create long lasting bubbles which help easily detect gas leaks in pipe lines, tanks, coil, cylinders, valves, etc.

Cutting Oil & Lubricants reduce friction and prevent excessive heat generation, both of which reduce material expansion and create ill fitting joints.
