Must needed for controlled temperature

The company that installed my furnace did not put it in. I have been in my home for 8 years and the heat never really worked efficiently. This year I changed my service company and they recommended I get the discharge temp air sensor to protect my coils because the furnace was shutting off with the high temp sensor. I changed the control panel and installed the sensor. My furnace is finally working efficiently and I am using less oil. Wish I had it in the first place. Highly recommended.

Expensive for a featureless thermistor

I required this part so that my Honeywell Prestige HD IAQ system would operate the humidifier in off or cool modes, as I have radiant heat not controlled by the thermostat. For the price (nearly 20% the thermostat price!) I expected this was something complicated, but that pretty plastic case is just to look nice and hide your wire nuts -- this is just a probe thermistor. It works great -- no problems there -- but if you're willing to put some extra time in I bet you could find a generic probe thermistor with the same resistance curve for cheaper.

Resolved the flashing Heat Red LED.

When I turned on my heat, the Heat (Red LED) would immediately start flashing. The flashing heat LED is an indicator that the max discharge air temp level had been reached, causing the heating system to shut down (air handler kept running). After a quick Google search, I determined the DATS (Discharge Air Temperature Sensor) was responsible for sending the air temp readings back to my HZ311 and had evidently failed, thus sending false info or not sending any info to the HZ311. Replaced the DATS (quick five minute job) and all is well again.

Honeywell Dats

A must for any residential or commercial zoned system. Eliminates a lot of nuisance calls due to system limit issues and cycling problems for both heat and cool applications. Really should not install zone dampers in any system without installing this product.

Works as it should

I bought this to go with the HZ432 control panel. Afterwards I found that the panel can be configured to not require the DATS. So I am not sure exactly what the discharge air temperature reading is used for but it's there and works!

Q: Is this the right DAT sensor for the VisionPro IAQ or is it the C7835? Honeywell documentation lists one or the other, and sometimes both.

According to page 38 of the manual below, it should be the C7835. http://www.forwardthinking.honeywell.com/related_links/thermostats/visionpro_iaq/install/68_0287.pdf
